It’s definitely both. It’s like a baritone guitar but tuned like a bass, but instead of being tuned like a 6 string bass it’s just an octave below a guitar. It also has different string spacing than a bass. It’s honestly super unique and I’m glad Fender still makes them.

Phenomenal playing, so expressive.

Is it a guitar or is it a bass? I think the answer is clearly "yes".

Wichita Lineman by Glen Campbell. Solo at the end is the only featured recording of the Fender Bass VI that I am aware of. He uses a clean sound with a higher treble setting and tremolo. Check it out.

John Lennon for "Back in the USSR" and "Rocky Raccoon," and George Harrison for "Birthday" and "Wild Honey Pie," used the Fender Bass VI on the Beatles White album. The Bass VI may also be heard on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" along with a Fender Jazz Bass, but there is a question about that. The Bass VI can be heard as a part of the mix on other songs on that double album as well.

As a bass player I'd like to have one of these.

It’s called a Bass VI because it’s a bass but because of its range it can be used as a guitar. However because in the end it lands somewhere in between, it’s can be used either way.

I appreciate how deep you get into your grooves - your playing - would you say it’s a matter of practice and paying attention to details while practicing or is it a skill or “talent” you have that allows you to play like that? * it’s a bass guitar.

Bass VI is definitely it's own critter... makes you play in a very different way. I'm really hoping they bring something out in-between the Vintera and the upper-end of the Custom Shop. I'd totally take a AVRI or a NOS/Time Capsule teambuilt.

VERY VERY cool, y'all. say, have you worked with Novo on getting their amazing instruments in your rad establishment?

Fender VI is all what the imagination allows it to be. It is a lead bass instrument for me, if I get one.

Its a bass for guitar player's home studio.

On one hand, cool beard, on the other hand it hides your bass face.

People this instrument is kinda useless. There is a reason why despite existing for 60 years you won't hear much recordings of it. It simply sounds way too thin compared to a real bass in a mix. The small scale length and thin strings simply sounds too thin and also the tuning is wobbly due being smaller than a bass. Its sounds cool solo but just as a gimmick in real music context is pointless.

throw it into Modern Metal. Thall/Djent styles of playing and it is perfect for those mixes. It wouldn't replace the bass, It would just be a different tonality to fit in with the longer scaled bass. well rounded guitar if you use it in the right mix and genre.

The Beatles made good use of the Fender Bass VI on "Hey Jude" "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" "Wild Honey Pie" "Birthday" "Helter Skelter" "Rocky Raccoon" and was included in the mix of some of their other songs.

Why do they still use this printed tort? It's awful.
