It's a way of the north IF there is lots of ice!! But then you get stupid people that think any ice is good ice to hold a truck, and then everyone see's these kind of videos and thinks that all trucks fall through the ice. Meanwhile thousands of trucks drive on the lakes each winter and 99% of them drive out and drive back off with no problems. In the early 1900's they use to drive teams of horses pulling logs across frozen lakes.

Right at 3:16 you see an oil slick pop up in the water. Certainly an indication that some kind of vehicle or machine is right below. I don't know....maybe this comes from being born and raised in Miami but I would not feel comfortable driving a truck out on a frozen body of water. I know people do it all the time and I guess every so often they hit a thin spot in the ice and lose their trucks. My cousin was also born and raised in Miami. He has lived in Minnesota for the last 10 years and he does the ice fishing thing. They tow big camper trailers out on the ice so they can stay out there with all the comforts of home. His trailer is one of those ones that have retracting wheels so the trailer lays flat on the ice. They there are holes in the floor of the trailer so they can fish in the warmth of the trailer. Heat, satellite TV, bathroom, etc. But no need for a cooler...just put the cold stuff outside. LOL. I don't know how he does it.

Probably Bc they know the ice shelf and all natural springs and deadly pressure cracks!!! Thank for the comment.
@nofascists10 күн бұрын
This is an annual routine for tens of thousands of people here in northern Minnesota. 8" of good clear ice minimum for a full sized truck, preferably 12" or more. It's not unusual to see hundreds of "ice castles" on Red Lake or Lake of the Woods in winter, usually beginning mid to late December depending on temperature and snow conditions. By mid to late January there may be 3 ft. of ice depending on temperature and snow cover. Many resorts plow roads out onto the lake for people to drive on. With an occasional mishap of someone sinking their rig, it's pretty standard fare here in the winter. Fishing in an "ice castle", watching football on tv, is not much different than sitting in your living room, fishing. Sleep there, prepare your meals there, etc.

Wow man...dangerous work. Things can go very wrong very quickly...but I don’t need to tell YOU that. Major props to your team. What’s the average an insurance company pays you guys for a job similar to this one? Ballpark if you’d so oblige. Thank you.

thank you. It not that dangerous or at least we do not take chances for a scrap steel pile and price numbers are all over due to conditions, depth and spills.
