I need the nailing the tree technique. I would have a hard time with the soursop tree tea because to my nose it gives off the scent of cat pee. I love the long neck avocados they are delicious, trying to sprout a seed right now. Love the flow of your conversation and it makes me even happier for you and Rachel that you are back around family and old friends again just watching this older video. Whamo! in the eye, a reason why I will never have bees. My face would have blown up like those jumbo exercise balls. Jealous of his plants and especially Barbados cherry. I want some vick’s plant.

I'm up here in Canada and I have a soursop tree in a 7 gallon pot in my room and it's 20 years old, it's about 6 feet tall, the trunk is about 4to 5 inches thick, it gives a lot of aromatic flowers but so far no fruit..I do use the leaves for tea...

The spickly pod tree is called Annoto we have alot in Jamaica What is annatto? Annatto is an orange-red food coloring or condiment made from the seeds of the achiote tree (Bixa orellana), which grows in tropical regions in South and Central America (1Trusted Source). It has several other names, including achiote, achiotillo, bija, urucum, and atsuete. It’s most commonly used as a natural food coloring, as it imparts a bright color that ranges from yellow to deep orange-red, similar to saffron and turmeric. Its color comes from compounds called carotenoids, which are pigments that are found in the seed’s outer layer and many other fruits and vegetables, such as carrots and tomatoes. Additionally, annatto is used as a condiment to enhance the flavor of dishes due to its slightly sweet and peppery taste. Its aroma is best described as nutty, peppery, and Though it may not be well known, an estimated 70% of natural food colors are derived from it (1Trusted Source).

I threatened my soursop and avocado with doom (cutting them down) and they produced the following year.... they can sense their impending fate.... I also think heavy pruning triggers re production. The red berry used for coloring is called bija (Bixa Orellana) or Annato/Achiote in the Dom Rep. I believe it has no nutritional value other than the coloring used in latin cuisine. My soursop is full of blooms right now. Traditionally it gives me fruit in the fall but it gave me six fruits in the spring for the first time this year. Great video!!

Steep the seeds from that 2nd tree(achote) in water and add the water to thinly sliced beef and peas. Delish! It adds more than just coloring. Great for red rice too

0:44 That tree works with many types of food :) I am an Islander, and we used that commonly for rice... Red Rice ! Its delicious and goes on other types of food, chicken etc... Here in Guam we call that tree "Achote" but to better extract the red fluid from it, works better with warm water, and letting the seed soak, then you can drain with a strainer as well. Hey David, you do not need have nails on your guanabana tree to produce fruits...in fact, in 2-3 years old the plant starts producing ok, only depending of, the variety, sun light and heat...good job for you and Eddy...oh, and about Bixa Orellana, a native Amazonian tree here in Brazil, named Urucum, a native indian word, people regularly use it in different ways...like a condiment, to put color on foods, to renew skin, like a sun blocker lotion and, mainly, to protect skin against insects like mosquitos ok...I have one in my backyard also

air rooting, it makes the branch start to put out roots, so you can take a cutting and get it rooted more quickly.

I have 3 fig trees, but the 1st one I had for 10 years and no fruit. I was walking one day with my dog and I kicked that tree as hard as I could and told it if it didn't give me some figs, it was coming down. 2 weeks later, I had 5-6 delicious figs. Strangest thing ever. I hope it does better next year. I planted two more and then I got 3 blueberry bushes that I plan to overwinter in pots because the stalks are too thin to put in the ground, but I'm interested in the nail tricks. I have had 2 knee replacements and I'm not too keen on kicking more trees.

I know a guy who had a mango tree not producing. So he threatened it and placed a nail in the trunk. Now that sucker produces tons of mangoes. Apparently it works.

With an inch gap in the bark, how thin can the wrap of peat moss be be and still get a good root? I have been wrapping about a couple inches in radius, 4 inch ball or so. Eddies looked much thinner.

orlandogreengirl It is common to put roofing nails in lemon trees. 2 nails will provide a tree with all the zinc it needs for a lifetime. It is the zinc and iron in the nail that helps 😃

Can you go into more detail about this nail method of getting trees to fruit? I've heard of whipping a tree to make it fruit and doing a kind of incomplete girdling but not of using nails. Also, Eddy said that he threatened the avocado tree -- does that mean he also used the nail method or some other method on the avocado?

I'm not sure how it works. He told me he nailed two nails into it so they crossed inside the tree. I have also heard of people whipping an unproductive tree with a chain to scar it and break branches and "shock" the tree into producing. I've never tried anything like that, though. Seems a bit mean.

sirjimmy71 If you use roofing nails, it provides the tree with zinc and iron. 2 nails should be enough per tree and hammered into the trunk. 😃 it common to do this to lemon trees that are starting to show yellow in their leaves

Scott Fulk Air layering is a method of propagating new trees and shrubs from stems still attached to the parent plant. The stem is wrapped with damp moss to encourage roots to form.
