It’s interesting how the USDA says it can handle outdoors 9-12 but potted 4-12. A lot of plants are labeled 9-12 but can’t even handle most of zone 9.

Planting a bananas 🍌 tree 🌲 next to sour soup tree is beneficial, because the banana 🍌 trees produces a lot of fruit flies that helps the sour soup produce fruits.

Ive had a particular problem with my soursop tree. I live in central Florida and he 1st year, the tree was about 6 ft tall, by Sept/Oct black spots started appearing on the leaves. Within weeks, the spots were on every leaf and then a they turned yellow and fell. by Nov. the leaves began to come out again. When the cold front came, I covered it to no avail. By the next morning, all the leaves were yellow and suffered the same fate. By early December I noticed that every branch had completely dried. I cut the tree down all the wat to the bottom. Basically just left it about 2 inches above the ground. By March it began to grow. In just 4 months it grew about 3 ft and looked gorgeous. Lots of deep green and healthy looking leaves. Unfortunately, the same thing happened again. It is getting very frustrating because I am investing a lot of time and effort in keeping it healthy. I water it either every other day or every I skip two days. I had stopped watering it during the evening as well just to make sure that it was not a fungus caused by humidity. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you

Your challenge is the cold weather. The best option is to protect them with a t pee type structure. The t pee tent needs to be secured to the ground to keep the heat in. Another option is a green house. You can also grow them in 25 gal pots and bring inside as needed. Best wishes.

great explanation .. I got a almost 8ft tree today and want to keep it in the pot ..because this already have fruit ..but I am wondering if this was hand pollinated? and are all this trees have to be hand pollinated?
@Pepesplants4 жыл бұрын
Hand pollination helps a lot. You can hang a piece of fruit on the tree near flowers and it may attract beetles and other pollinators. Thanks for watching.

How do you protect the soursoup tree during winter, when it’s cold?
@Pepesplants3 жыл бұрын
The easiest way is to maintain your tree at about 7 - 8 feet tall. A smaller tree can be covered with a T Pee type structure. A blanket would cover the tree and also a tarp or heavy plastic would be placed over it. The entire tent/ T Pee should also allow the covering to reach and connect to the ground. This would insulate the tree by heat radiating back to the tree. This would need to be a temporary structure. Maybe a few days at most. I would only do this if temperatures dipped to less than 40 degrees F. Soursop will loose most all leaves from 45 degrees or less but so long as not near freezing bounce back. Repeated cold snaps or freezes would likely kill the tree. In colder climates, people grow the trees in containers and bring indoors as needed. Thanks for visiting, commenting and sharing my videos. Best wishes.

When do you fertilize sour sop & what do you use?
@Pepesplants3 жыл бұрын
Young trees 18-6-8 plus a few foliar sprays with minerals and kelp. 4 year old trees 13-13-13 Time release and minerals plus plenty of organic material all over as mulch. Keep away from base of tree trunk.

@@MangoAficionado Neem has fungicidal properties it may help. Copper is considered much more effective, but don't use it within two weeks of neem. Always spray 1 or 2 hours before sunset or neem will burn the leaves. You may have no choice and have to use copper.

I need help with my soursop tree. For around two years, my tree grows leaves but it starts to show white little bumps in the central vein and then the those start to spread all over the leaves. Those spots look like solid blisters but they don't ooze or have anything in them. The leaves either curl, wilt or turn brown and fall. I have tried Neem oil and copper fungicide, but so far no results. I live in North Miami; can anyone knows where could I go to have the tree properly diagnose and be informed about an effective treatment? Thanks.
@Pepesplants3 жыл бұрын
Those bumps are called galls. They are insect damage. Spray organic pesticides to control insects like aphids etc..

Hi Pepe, l have learned a lot from watching your videos. I have a soursop tree that's about 2 years old, it's almost 10 feet tall. There's no fruit yet, my question is, should I prune of the main stock about 7 feet? So it can grow wider and the limbs get bigger or just leave it like that. Thanks
@Pepesplants4 жыл бұрын
Remove no more than 25 maybe 30% at most. I have trees only 8 foot tall. I prune them after harvest and always look at all branches carefully or you might remove flowering or fruiting branches. Tiny flowers and fruit. A two year old seedling tree is still quite young. Be sure to provide lots of sun. Fertilize spring and summer and also use minerals including zinc and boron. You need to also spray copper to control fungal diseases. I wrote a great book on the subject if interested. www.amazon.com/Soursop-Guanabana-Guide-Growing-Home/dp/1710046872/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

In the subtropics yes. When a prolonged cool period. They don't like temperatures below 45 Degrees F. They can die during freezes but a short freeze sometimes are survived.

Pepe, I'm in Los Angeles where I'm growing my Soursop, do I need to put it in a greenhouse during the winter? Thanks!
@Pepesplants4 жыл бұрын
Yes. They need protection below 45 degrees F. I abuse my trees and let them get as low as 40 degrees and sometimes close to a freeze. They will loose all leaves and could die depending on the tree. They usually bounce back depending on the severity of a cold snap. Better not take a chance if you have a greehouse, use it. Never let them get frozen.
