That certainly wasn't boring! That radio sounded great to me, even through youtube. I bet there are some really interesting stations that can be heard when the weather conditions are right. Thanks for uploading

Great for a workshop as it would blend in well with the test equipment!

Nice to hear you both having a loverly trip and a wander around :-D. A trip always improves the mood :-D What a loverly radio, it might drift a bit but it's not deaf and sounds smashing :-D For the band that's a touch too high, maybe add a few picofarads across the mixer oscillator coil selected. Tack it on the underside maybe. Ntc/ptc caps might be a way to reduce the drift if it's annoying. i bet there is a ham out there that has found the ideal cap types. Sorry i'm stating the bloody obvious as normal lol.

The German station on 3 MHz is almost certainly an image of the station on 3.9 MHz

Where I live a number of BBC Locals have now left Medium wave including 630, 765. 729 and 1026 Khz. All have been vocated during the last 15 months. You are right they could be re used for low power stations of some kind. Or may be more transmissions of Radio Caroline.

Only upside to the local stations closing is that MW DX such as transatlantic stations might be more audible. Looks like stateside won’t be be closing their MW stations anytime soon.

I transmit on 1977am most evenings but very often at the weekend, whole bands are unusable due to the CQ contest rubbish. There is just no space for people to have "Normal" conversations after the contests start. Always a pleasure to watch your videos Sir. This is one of my favorite channels!

Many thanks for taking the time to put this video together. The same model is advertised second hand for $250 Australian dollars (around 125 British pounds) would you consider it to be a good starting point for a beginner? Also, what range could I expect on a good day, or night? Will I only hear Aussies, New Zealanders and Indonesians, or can I hope for broadcasts from countries even further away?

I've never owned an Eddystone of any description but would love to get one. My late father-in-law had something similar to the EC10 but it had VHF FM on it as well, might have been an EB35? Only the VHF part of it worked though, it was dead on HF and he wasn't able fix it so I tried everything to get it off him, he wasn't having any of it though. You definitely should adjust the oscillator tracking, I doubt that the tuning would be that far off from the factory, not from Eddystone anyway, just go through each band and give it a quick tune up, you'll probably get improved sensitivity too. Regarding medium wave broadcast enforcement, they used to come down heavily on illegal broadcasters in the London area in the '70s, I used to dabble a bit too but got scared off when I saw the fines people were getting, and a criminal record to boot, but I think most of their effort goes into policing the VHF FM band now, so you probably could pop a signal up on medium wave not get noticed, especially if you don't go and plonk a harmonic right in the middle of a busy ham band. Nice radio though and thanks for sharing ...
