In the states it doesn't really work as "getting into turbines". The conversion Avanti jet isn't heavy enough to get your turbine waiver. USA - AMA requires 12lbs dry weight for the aircraft used to get your waiver for turbines.

Interesting. Wasn't aware of that. Thanks for sharing that info.

It would be a big leap to fly a small turbine jet without flying a cheaper EDF jet first but could be done. Jets fly differently. More slippery generally and different approach to take off and landing, use of flaps etc.

I'm converting an Avios MiG17 with an Xicoy X45 turbine, using a Grumania jets twin-wall thrust tube. As it's a requirement for brakes to be fitted on all turbines (no matter how small) at our club I have fitted the JP electromagnetic wheeled brakes. Xicoy state a UAT is quote: "highy recommended" and after speaking to Jeff at Zedjet he agrees so I am using a small 2 ounce UAT. I used BVM 'HEATSHIELD' paint instead of self adhesive foil tape. Looking forward to seeing the flying video and good luck with the maiden flight! I'll subscribe so I don't miss it! 👍 BTW: Motion RC are out of stock of the Avanti S in both the EDF and unpowered versions but this may be my next project for the X45.

I noticed that you didn't mention anything about an air filter on the tank breather tube.. Do you not think that it would be a good idea to fit one to potentially stop any debris being sucked in to the fuel tank?!?
@EssentialRC4 жыл бұрын
air filter? There is a foreign object debris (FOD) guard integrated into the front of the engine that stops anything going into it. Think you are also talking about the vent which I did mention. It's just a narrow bore tube does doesn't need a filter.
@budgetwebsiteservice4 жыл бұрын
@@EssentialRC Yes I'm talking about on the breather tube that stops the tank from imploding as the fuel is sucked out of the tank.. Had you left the tube inside the fuselage, it wouldn't really be necessary but from how you described it, it sounded like you've put it through a hole to the outside.. Many many years ago when I used to fly with nitro engines, we'd always put a small filter on the breather tube if it was fed outside of the aircraft...

Just wondering how likely it will be that turbines break in crashes? I know the air frame will be destroyed but any idea how resistant the engines are?
@EssentialRC4 жыл бұрын
I think there is less chance of damage in a foamie compared to a composite model. The engine being surrounded by foam has to be a good thing in an impact. That is unless the fuel tank splits and ignites on impact...in which case there could be a large sticky mess. 😂

How to turn an excellent plane into a very expensive excellent plane. I knew turbines were expensive, but about Aud$3500? Wow. That's holiday money! Lol
@brianroberts50624 жыл бұрын
$3500 AUD for a Turbine you need to shop better. This is a 4Kg thrust turbine. My 14Kg turbines in my Aviation Jets SU35S were less than that each. The 6Kg turbine in my HSD F-16 was only $2200 AUD. And these have in air flameout auto restart. Getting into turbines is not as expensive as you think. I have paid more for my gas engine (Radials) than turbines. Give them a go.
