I believe among us is a cinematic masterpiece, the actors, the atmosphere, and the movie sets are incredible! The red “imposter” was the best actor in Hollywood, he played the character spectacularly! - Rhys

A striking directorial debut by Dassin and an excellent performance by Joseph Schildkraut.

Here’s something’s that didn’t sit well with me. The old man wasn’t a bad person he was nice and the only reason the main dude wanted to kill him was because of his eye. Also they don’t have him plan everything perfectly and stand at the door watching the old man like in the story

Yes! The narrator says that the old man never wronged him and it was just his eye. This fact is what made the narrator seem like a lunatic here he just seems like a victim of abuse who had enough.

I guess they felt it would be easier to tell the story in 20 minutes with that bit of a backstory, though it seems pretty easy to imagine the original story as a short

Perhaps it could be that Poe used the 'eye' to symbolize our own vision of prejudice, and anything would do.

I don’t think the eye was even the reason he killed the man. I think he was crazy enough to just make that up.

‘The Pale Blue Eye’…gearing up for this weekend’s Christian Bale story…this is not it, but the direct quote is, & the character of Edgar Allen Poe is featured 🔥👹🔥

I understand that you are frustrated with the movie not being accurate but you have to take into account it was made in 1941, and it was shorter so they couldn't be as accurate. If you want one more accurate look for one filmed in the last 10-20 years.

Only 3 Minutes in & they already screwed up the narrative... The old man was not bitter and mean - and the young man working for him never had any quarrels and never disliked the old man. Excerpt from the second paragraph in the beginning of the story... " it is impossible to say how the idea first entered my brain; but once conceived, it haunted me night and day. Object there was none. Passion there was none. I love the old man. He had never wronged me. He had never given me insult. For his gold I had no desire. I think it was his eye! yes it was this! One of his eyes resembled that of a vulture-- a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees- very gradually- I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, & thus rid myself of the eye forever." Anyone here for a school project don't rely on this film I can tell you already that they took Liberties and change significant parts of the actual story to fit the narrative and make it scarier for the big screen.

A nice looking film, though ham-fisted! The subtlety of Poe is lost immediately here, placing this film on the shelf with lots of very similar stuff!

I seen what was the original movie made from this story which was ALOT better made infact it was so intense people talked about it for years to come. Definitely one of the better takes on the classic horror story. The acting in the other version was simply fantastic.

@@a_fucking_rose3884 I have read the story. I read it years ago but sometimes when I want to be really entertained by what I'm seeing and hearing even though I know the story backwards and forwards, I found it best to just watch the story shown to me and just enjoy it for what it is instead of fight against it. I might like that version better.
