I ask what the difference is between how people behave and culture. I think one answer might be "culture" can be thought of as the invisible guide rails and internal assumptions about the structure of meaning related to certain actions which propel people toward certain types of behaviors, and which are reenforced by communication which affirms the behaviors and assumptions. This state of things must have also a concrete parallel in the material reality of the setting, i.e. a factory vs an office a forest vs a desert. But though certain types of practical necessities derive from the physical environment, that reality is open to different interpretive lenses which can change meaning. Further, within all that, there is also the dynamic of all the individual persons and their own particular state of mental health or pathologies, personality defects, strengths, spiritual growth or lake thereof, IQ, and levels of social skills, and dispositions, and those traits become, for other people, like pathways or obstacles within the mental/physical environment people have to navigate and therefore are part of the forces which shape what the culture is.

Thank you so much for posting this video. I have read Edgar Schein's work for many years now, yet nothing is like hearing his insights and pearls of wisdom directly. If you gain another opportunity to interview Edgar Schein, can you please ask him what are his views on organizational climate and where does it fit in his three level theory of culture?

This is like using CBT over psychotherapy but at an organisational level.
