Always awesome information !!! Thank You !!! Ice been using shellac lately with good results ,,, but time will tell if this is a good choice , ,,,,
@EdgarRuss4 жыл бұрын
Years ago I judged makers by what kind of varnish they use. Time cooled me down on this matter. If it works and you are happy with the result stay on your method. It is part of your style and reflects your process of becoming what you are. Changing makes also part of this process. 😉 Thanks a lot Stay tuned, soon the oil varnish video goes finally online. ER

So what’s better oil or Spirit for Violín

I recall having heard some people use marbles, clean stones or similar to fill up the volume of varnish or oil and replace the air. Have you ever experienced a glass container to actually break?
@bluehoo04 жыл бұрын
David Rekowski I use glass marbles. I insert them to bring up the level with the top of the container make sure the lid has a good seal, then I turn it upside down. My theory being because the container is inverted there’s less chance of air entering.

Meanwhile I've been using Stopp Loss Bags for oil finishes and I they seem to do a great job of keeping the air out as well as allowing controlled pouring. Might be worth a try.

Have you ever used a compensated/harp style tailpiece on an instrument? If so did it make a good impact on the sound? If not would you ever try one in the future?

can you back-fill a partially full jar of oil varnish with Ar or other inert gas? I have seen these sold in small amounts for similar applications.

😂 No idea! Has been a gift from an apprentice from Mongolia. I lost the bow 20 years ago. And the apprentice has stolen/not paid two violins which he took on trial.....! 😢 ER
