I think i could listen to ian mackaye talk for hours - whenever I see interviews with him I wish they never end. That dude has such wise insights.

I, personally, feel proud of myself for stepping out of the mold to be apart of the countless straight edge individuals around the world. Drug free for life!!! Straight edge forever!!!
@straightedgesteveo13 жыл бұрын
I was edge for 4 years ( 19 - 23) and you know what I don't need to have a title to define who I am, I have enough strength and commitment to make my own choices. Nowadays I can have 1 or 2 beers and be fine. At the end of the day, its all about living your life to the full, so I'm going to do just that. (now if I only knew how to change my youtube name hahah!)

Straight edge lifer, about 90% of everyone I knew that was edge has sold out, I remain strong,loyal and dedicated to the X.

So many kids went through edge like a fad during high school... I have been edge since I discovered it at 15 but still have never touched a drop of alcohol or drugs in my 20 years of life. I can proudly say it has put me in the amazing position that I am today and I will never turn my back on sXe because it will never turn it's back on me. With that being said, what's life for some isn't right for some and that's always how it's going to be.
@Muetze200715 жыл бұрын
@ All those who say "yea you dont end up in jail or dead when you drink or smoke". I personally do not think that that is their beliefs. Maybe those who were interviewed had a drug history and Straight edge helped them to get out of it because they found people who supported them, which is the best thing to happen for such a person.

I don't know why some of you guys are saying bad stuff about straight edge. Straight edge has helped many people. Its not a bad thing if you don't want to do drugs or drink or any of that shit. Its my life and its your life too so if u want to smoke weed or drink or anything I'm not gonna judge you cuz its your life but the thing is I don't say shit about what u chose to do with your life but it's okay for you to hate on my chooses for my life!

straight edge has just turned into a competition about how 'edge' you can be, its not about the 3 simple rules anymore. These comments below just prove that and its a really, really sad thing to see.

i dont think you need to "claim edge" to not do drugs or drink. nuff said. oh and i have no idea what the song is called but explosions in the sky makes amazing music that sounds just like that :D
@chavoiscool15 жыл бұрын
That is exactly correct. I know a few kids who claim Edge, but are just ignorant and violent, and think that because they have drug free tattooed on them they are the edgiest of edge kids.

@enniemeanieminnie I'm gunna guess that Ford Edge is a truck or something? I'm watching cuz it's on a public website and I was curious about how Straight Edge got started cuz a lot of my friends used to be Edge.

Pretty stupid how everyone keeps bitching about scene or emo kids like it matters to them. Pretty rad. Edge is the way to be, its the ultimate self respect. Whether you symbolize it with X's on your fists or not, be proud of who you are. You have dominated all of the nonsense that seems to catch the majority of people as they grow up. Its not hard, its smart; Its right. Lookin forward to the Docu.

I tried smoking once, and I never drank a full glass of alcohol ever, but I don't consider myself straight edge. I consider this a lifestyle though, it's called a "healthy lifestyle". I don't think I'm better than anyone, but you gotta be smart with what you do, or you'll end up dead. Just work at a rehab facility for a few days trust me, and it's not a hard choice...
@xEmeraldCityx13 жыл бұрын
To everyone who thinks that labeling oneself is pointless, I just want to say that it's not so much a label, than it is a way of identifying and unifying a group of like-minded people. If you think about it, saying you're "drug-free" is, in a way, similar to saying "straight edge", so don't beat people down for using a different diction. It's okay if you don't identify as "straight edge"- to each their own- but don't be hypocritical.
@DANxCHORIN15 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say straight edge is a trend at the moment, a lot of people are breaking edge.
@thepriceofreality14 жыл бұрын
it annoys me how people say being straight edge is a "commitment". I choose not to walk around outside naked. it isn't a life commitment to abstaining from nudism. it's just a personal choice. as is abstaining from drink/drugs. it's a choice. the reason you don't take heroin is because you don't want to not because you call yourself straight edge.
@Lumberjackowns14 жыл бұрын
@TheShang7 So what you're saying is that since he created the term, he can say whatever he wants about it and he's right? I think not. Especially if he's using the wrong terminology. You can't just use a word to describe something you created and it means that you're right. You just can't.

@PeterBraa I totally understand this. Where I'm from, EVERYONE claims edge, yet the day they turn 21, oh I might have Edge tattoos, but I'm gonna drink now. Its a disgusting thing. I feel like everyone should be able to think for themselves, and instead of being pushed by the frivolity of our time, they should stand up and STICK WITH IT! If they make a lifelong commitment, thats what it should be!

what he's implying is that by living without any substances you're living simply and purely as 'yourself' and that by keeping away from that shit you're just living your life. i get what you're saying tho. btw, its ian mackaye, he wrote the song "straight edge" and other songs explaining the ideology this is all based on

@sammpaull2722 Most people aren't aware that most modern music is so extremely loud due to technology standards that everyone will have some significant hearing loss when they're older. It's the same for drugs/drinking. Most people who DO them aren't thinking when they use them, and they use it as a cheap means of escape.

i hear ya man but there are plenty of things in life that you dont need that are pretty great though like fast cars, good tasting food, internet, and even music but they are things that can potential enrich your life. alcohol may poison the mind and body but cannabis on the other hand is less harmful and addictive than caffeine and just because your in a different state of mind doesn't necessarily mean its foggy or opaque one. I'm not trying to push weed on anyone just, throwing that out there.

I agree but I think being posi will convince more people in the long run... 'cause when you're too aggressive about your beliefs people will think you are blaming them personally and will defend themselves by doing exactly the opposite of what you suggest. We have to show people there's a choice and trust that every human does see the positive outcome of being straight edge.

And i think it is not about that alcohol is the worst enemy of the people and thats why you gotta be straight edge but just to live a positive lifestyle where you do not need drugs for and thats a good thing. btw I'm not straight edge but i respect the people who honestly do that because our society is drug addicted. Imagine how many people would go crazy if there would be no drugs for a week

@StraightEdgeHBK It's not about rules, that's where everyone gets the idea that we are a "cult". You can't force judgment on someone until you yourself know what they go through. Straight Edge is about being committed; not seeing who can be better at it.

@Corebyheart You are right. The music is not a reason to be Edge, and being Edge doesn't mean you have to listen to the music. I know a LOT of edge people who would rather sit and listen to some country music. Honestly, I think it has been taken too far on some levels.

No, I'd think they didn't invite you because you'd feel uncomfortable being there while everyone else is drinking. I'm only thinking that because I can't stand being around a bunch of drunk idiots unless I'm also drunk or high. But I hardly drink and you can't smoke in public so I don't get invited to bars either. Which I'm thankful for. (Oh, most my family are alcoholics too, so I know how that goes.. I never wanted to drink either, for a long time, didn't till after turning 21.)

Those kids make me mad. The kids who lie and say their still edge after they smoke or drink and continue to do that. Shows how little conviction they have. And ya, i agree with you that some kids take it a little too far and make it almost like a religion.
@Lumberjackowns14 жыл бұрын
@straightedge442 Look, I got no problem with whoever wants to be Straight Edge or not. You can drink or not, and you can smoke or not. Those are choices though. People choose whether or not to drink and/or smoke. Being Straight Edge is a lifestyle though. You can't smoke or drink. There is no choice about it because if you're Straight Edge then that's the lifestyle you chose for yourself. That's how Straight Edge is a fucking lifestyle.
