Those blocks and your mentality about knife attacks are right on track. So many martial arts instructors teach the wrong blocks which take a lot of thinking in order to make them work. Cognitive function goes near zero in attacks. Your blocks and off balance philosophy are simple. KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid). Small Police/Sheriff’s Dept. can’t afford extensive training programs. Glad to see you are here for them.

I did a security course once taught for LEOs. The instructor said cops are trained to throw something into the face of the attacker while stepping back and drawing their gun. I think that would work. Like you're talking to the guy and you are just holding gloves or a notebook. He draws a knife and as he comes at you you toss the object into his eyes. He will flinch and that gives you critical time to step back

Very good points. If you think you can defend against a knife give a young kid a red marker and tell them to draw on you and make it a game. Even a 5 or 6 yr old will paint you red.

5:09. Point well made and very true. Also a good concept to keep in mind with knives. What I’ve always learned through martial arts training but no instructor tells you is most of the moves or techniques you learn are for after you’ve been cut or stabbed. The best lesson I was taught was, you “will” be cut in a knife fight. The question is-how many times?… I guess that goes back to the old phrase, “death from a thousand cuts.”

This very interesting. Back in 2006 Mr Nance and Mr David Halford put a article in BB mag. I happened to see it then and cut it out- the name of the article was Edged wpn survival.I have used the techniques shown here to teach sense then. -Ari Of Don,t be a victim 1 30 22.

How do you move to cover during a knife attack. Gotta secure that arm

Outstanding self-defense videos gentlemen. Thank you so much for uploading. Most videos that i have seen on KZbin show that a knife wielding subject is best taken down by firearm if he is coming before he get to a set distance. He can get to you pretty quickly before you can draw and fire off a few shots hopefully all effective shots. lol! What do you guys have to say in regards to tactic?

I have a weird freind I got in a fight with him and jeez he did not look good (2 year time black belt here)🥋🥋 just never learnt knife defence
So, the Filipino defense techniques, which are based on a knife culture are unrealistic? So you know better than Inosanto and others like him? You need an education...

Oh, and you're an expert on the realities of a knife fight?
@jeffreylardizabal39646 жыл бұрын
He's telling the absolute truth. It's not that FMAs are unrealistic. They were the best technology for their time. But if you read the history of FMA, you'll find that during the Spanish rule of 300 plus years, with GUNPOWDER and firearms, the blade culture was, by martial law, forbidden, so fencing with sticks, "escrima," hid the blade art. A firearm is an edged weapon. It fires projectiles which pierce - just like the tip of a sword. A bullet cannot slice like a saber or box cutter, thus, it has no arc of damage. Therefore, close quarter, there is nothing like a blade - hand-to-hand, which can do more damage in more ways. THEREFORE - knowing this, law enforcement or military personnel, KNOWING this about edged weapons, like me (certified by GT Leo T. Gaje, Jr. back in 1985), recognize the threat, create an operational gap in order to continue shooting and moving until the threat is neutralized, because of the lethality of edged weapons. Does a LE and MIL professional need to know how to fight against an edged weapon in case their gun jams or they run out of rounds against multiple edged weaponed punks? Yes - and that's worst case scenario, which every credible officer must train on; but it is not prefered. We do not owe criminals and terrorists equal ground - i.e. "armas de mano," or armor of the hands. If they have no weapon, we have an ASP tactical baton, spray, bolowrap (KZbin it), pepper ball gun, force in numbers and authority in uniform and the law. If they have a weapon, we are ready to use greater means in numbers and force, because of alternative - lawlessness, which is unacceptable.
