Acclimatisation societies, man. One of the worst things humanity has ever come up with.
@Doxymeister4 ай бұрын
@@hoilst265 I had no idea what acclimatization society was, had to google it, but I totally get it. Like the introduction of European honey bees to the US because people love honey. LOL, I love honey too, but now they are feral here in huge numbers, and are pushing native bee populations to the edge of extinction. Cats and European starlings more examples--in fact most of our farm animals are examples of that. Thank you for making me learn a new term.

05:17 Cripes!! That's a LOT more goats than I imagined there'd be. A herd like that would do a number on the vegetation. But I have to confess I was thinking how many Greek gyros they could produce.
@fredbecker6075 ай бұрын
@LuvBorderCollie each doe will drop two kids at a time. Can breed 3 times in each two year period. The ducklings can breed at 3 months and does at about 6 months. Those numbers go out of control quick.
@Doxymeister4 ай бұрын
@@fredbecker607 Exactly, we have very similar problems here in the southern mid-west of America, at least with the pigs, goats not so much. Pigs tend to have large litters, breed two to three times a year, and a young sow can breed at around six months. Just in my state alone, we have an estimated 1.5 million feral hogs, and they do millions of dollars in damages to crops and orchards. That's why I kind of look sideways at "animal lovers" who think this is cruel and awful. I love animals too, but these animals threaten our food supply. Not to mention, they're aggressive and dangerous. We almost lost our town dentist to feral hogs, she got torn up really bad, took her months to heal up.

Another great video. Here in The Bahamas we also have problems with invasive species. Cats , Dogs , hogs goats and now raccoons killing native wildlife . The only difference is that locals here like to eat most of them . Wild hogs can be sold for $2 kilo whole . Can't imagine how overrun the islands would be if invasive species were not dealt with.
@EDGEoftheOUTBACK5 ай бұрын
Wow, I didn't know there's a problem in that country. Very interesting indeed.
@amosweatherford2494 ай бұрын
@EDGEoftheOUTBACK The hogs are generally not seen as a bad invasive species here because they have been here since the first British arrived in 1600s ( probably before that with the Spanish ) so even though they are responsible for helping wipe out native animals , it's beyond living memory and wild pork is sold in restaurants. With nowhere near the land area as Australia it's easy for hunter's to keep the population low , but I'm told by older people that before roads and trucks, they were a problem. 100 years ago, farmers had to build tock walls around farms , and one settlement even sectioned off that part of the island with a fence . The British gov was paying bounty hunter's per ear . Modern environmental groups brought in bounty hunters to trap cats but soon gave up . Cats and Raccoon will soon wipe out the remaining native parrots that nest on the ground on only 1 island. Only one remaining mamal and its only found on one small island now . Sea birds and turtles shifted from nesting on larger islands with cats , hogs , Raccoon and nest on smaller islands. The average person has no idea how destructive they all are . You definitely inspired me to get night vision. Here, we can't import proper " military " grade stuff, so I got a cheap One Leaf NV100 .off Amazon. It's works using a corn feeder @ 100m , and it is easy enough to spot an animal that's moving , but I'm definitely jealous of your running shots across open fields . On the other hand my cheap try at subsonic was a failure. Knocked a big boar down with a shot to the neck but he jumped back up ran around in circles then disappeared into the thick bush. 175g Atomic FMJ subsonic definitely doesn't hit like normal 308 . What subsonic are you using now ?

Really admire your marksmanship. A true pro with top grade equipment. Appreciate the video and the alerting to feral problems out in country areas. I've seen goats in their thousands, on the of the road, between Broken Hill and Cobar, but I never understood why someone couldn't bag at least 100 a day in broad daylight! The Midle East love them, so why not chill 'em and pack 'em off over to help the hungry?

Awesome job, man. The feral pigs are out of control here in the southern US as well, costing billions in crop and orchard damage, but also dangerous as well. Back when I was teaching my boys how to hunt, I carried a .40 revolver sidearm as well (somewhat frowned upon at the time) because I was down early setting up camp and would be alone there. A ranger did make note of the sidearm, but since I was a female out alone, I think he just "overlooked" it and dropped the subject. Anyway, folks like you provide an awesome service to farmers and ranchers, plus protecting the environment.
