White is better for cattle in a hot country. Sad to see dark colour being promoted. There are some really cute White Parks in NZ. Being smaller and weighing less is better as they do less damage to steep country on lifestyle blocks.

Very much just lifestyle block cattle here in NZ. Angus is the most seen breed by far. Charolais dairy X is becoming very popular far more efficient compared to carrying a beef cow all year for one calf

Speckle Park cattle originated from White Galloway bred up using Black Angus cattle, in western Canada. They really are white angus cattle.
@allanrowland13012 күн бұрын
Nope, Angus, Beef Shorthorn, and British White is what was mixed to get these. They just borrowed the 'Park' name from the White Park cattle breed.

Pretty sure there's a fraught proposition in the title question, interestingly even mentioned in the discussion. Claiming this excellent breed as Australian is at best disingenuous.

When I first saw one, I though the head and legs were too small, but then again, the body is larger. Less hide damage (for leather producers) will see higher prices for that side business. At the supermarket we only see "beef" labels.

They were developed in Canada.
@tomaswall693529 күн бұрын
They came from Canada. They are just a cross of Angus x shorthorn x white park. Had them 20 years ago in Ireland, i didn't or don't see any advantage of them to be honest and they died a death here. It's very very rare to see one now. Any of the traditional breeds will outperform them and get a better price. If it's weight we want we go with the continental cattle and we can get daily live weight gain of 2kg a day in the finishing period. They don't suit parts of Australia though.

@miraleatardiff854329 күн бұрын
The breed's baselines are a combination of the genetics of three breeds from England and Scotland: Teeswater Shorthorn Aberdeen Angus English cattle with the white park pattern The breed was developed in Spruce Grove, Alberta and North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada. No Galloway.

@@miraleatardiff8543no, there's another history online somewhere that disputes that and goes into the admixture of Highland and jersey and Angus into the mix. Cool story.
@allanrowland13015 күн бұрын
@@miraleatardiff8543, British White is what gives them the white with black tips. White Park cattle have the same colours and are horned. The use of 'Park' in the title is misleading.

According to Wiki; 'The Speckle Park was developed in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan from 1959, by cross-breeding stock of the British Aberdeen Angus and Shorthorn breeds; the spotted or speckled pattern for which it is named derived from a single bull with the colour-pointed markings of the British White Park.'
