Willie, what’s the status on Part3? I are you less enthused about Edge Switches these days?
@trick05027 жыл бұрын
If you could at some point show how you would VLAN a UniFi ap from an EdgeSwitch . So you could have different ssids on different VLANs. Great video, I look forward to part three.

kinda off-topic -> I have found Chrome plays well with the GUI interface. Firefox 5.6.0 hangs quite a long time with the whirly-gig spinning. I have to hit refresh on the browser to get it to connect each time I save something. I am guessing this is why Willie uses Chrome? Again, great videos. Am looking forward to part 3

I just watched the video again, and am curious - you demonstrated putting VLAN2 as all ports being (E) excluded. You stated this will prevent any appliance on this VLAN as unable to pass traffic anywere except VLAN2 and will not even make it to the router. If I am understanding this correctly, would I use VLAN2 (as example) for the maintenance VLAN? And, VLAN1 is the "Native" VLAN?

One thing I don't like, and I've never come across this on other brands, is that if you enable Layer 3 routing on VLAN1 you HAVE to change the subnet, or else you get an error message, and then the default IP you set the switch to does nothing. You can't administrator the switch via that initial IP address you set. It's just confusing to have it there in the first place like that.

Will you be finishing the series?

Just got an Edge Switch24 Lite running 1.9.2 and there is one thing that is driving me crazy. The auto logout is set way too short. It is like every 2 minutes I have to log back in. I have not found any setting to change it. Hopefully there is a way to reconfigure it. The ER-4 is fine.

After configuring admin access of HTTPS, you did not mention if HTTP access should be disabled. Do you disable HTTP after HTTPS admin access is configured?

How about Part 3?
@DJDevon34 жыл бұрын
Yeah I tried that. I can access any IP from any subnet on the switch. It is NOT honoring VLAN tagging at all. What could cause that? I can login to the switch on 192.168.10.x pvid 1 from 10.1.1.x pvid 10? :( :( :( Yes I have the excludes and everything is setup properly, even in SSH looks good. WTF.

How do i VLAN on edgerouter/ ER8 or edgepoint 8 does not have a switch chip Am i crazy to want to vlan between edgerouter and unifi switch
@linuxpc4me5557 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! One question - As I understand, I can change the "link to wan" port (trunk port). By default, it is port 1. So if I do what you demo'd, and select port 24, I would need to put my patch cable from port 24 to the router to get to WAN. Is that correct?
@linuxpc4me5557 жыл бұрын
I did not state my question correctly. With VLANS, can I change the main trunk port from the default (1) to another, as example, port 24? Thanks for answering. I look forward to part 2

Hallo I would really like you to come back to this series and get on with it! I feel there are a lot more distractions on your channel these days, subjects vary and you seem to abandon series (network theory, this one etc). Off course it's your channel and I'm thankful it exists, but I miss the continued focus om some core subjects like routing, switching & wireless. Hope you agree ;-)

I just bough an ES-24-LITE to replace my (sometimes infuriating) HP 1820-24g, only because of your videos. :D

I also bought 3 of them based on these videos. Although I am still in the process of learning ( thanks to the videos) they are great. I also purchased 4 edgerouter x, 6 UniFi cameras and 4 AP's. Over the past few months. I can say I am very glad I stumbled on your videos. Thanks for such a great resource

I don't think you'd find much enjoyment with the 1820. The new GUI is broken in Chrome (doesn't show you the edit buttons), and it doesn't support SSH.

@linuxpc4me5557 жыл бұрын
Willie, Thanks so much for the reply! I am looking forward to the next session which includes " We'll set a static IP and being setting up VLANs. We'll also talk about how to label ports and physically disable them too." As far as setting VLANS, my goal is to have a basis for good practice by watching the video. As a template, I'd like to learn 1) correct way to construct VLANS (Firewall settings); 2) Changing maintenance VLAN to something other than VLAN01; 3) ensure VLANS cannot ping the others, 4) inter-VLAN routing. As example, VLAN10=BOSSES, VLAN20=staff and VLAN30= shared printers/NAS/etc, Both VLAN 10 and 20 have access to VLAN(s) with printers/NAS/etc, but VLAN 10 and 20 cannot talk to each other. You gave a great video on Unifi-AP VLANS that talks about blocking access to anyone but yourself and still have internet access. I think I can adapt this to my example. As I only know enough to be inept, I really would like to have a basis to run my own labs for gaining mastery on a basic level before I unleash my efforts on my network at home then at church. Thanks again for such great videos

Willie's EdgeSwitch had to be RMA'd however Ubiquiti didn't honour it so no Part 3 I presume!?>
