The history of adventure in Shadowdale is rich and storied. Comment and let me know where else in the Realms you'd like to me to reveal! Thank you so much for your continued support! Without your contributions to this project we wouldn't be able to make these videos: patreon.com/EdGreenwood

Do you have any information on what else Elminster did during Baldur's Gate 3, besides send Gale Dekarious a simacrulum with a message from Mystra? (1492 DR)

Mr. Greenwood! A question for you! Is Volo still banned from Shadowdale or has that elapsed? You did say that did happen in your earlier guide book to the dale lands. As you said before he too is a chosen even if he doesn't know it. Would he be welcomed there or no?

Well.... damn. How long has it been? I lost track of D.R. years since I last played there in the 1990s. I wonder if anyone besides my own Char ever tried to rebuild Krag Castle, its not even on the last map I saw. 16,000 people?!? Incredible.... they haven't paved the road too, have they? About Shadowdale, I always suspected this was ground-zero in your building of the Realms. Am I right? It all seemed to dilate outwards from there, so long ago. Am I right?

back in 1st/2nd, we purposely stayed away from the dales for most of our adventures. With people like El etc around. it was obvious that the TPB would do a lot of meddling around there. We predominatley played in the Savage Frontier. if that campaign was ever restarted ( its been 20 years). Boy would a lot of official stuff need to be chucked. Another oddty, would be that the OG characters that founded out country up the Delimbyr valley and around the bottom to Amphail. they would be still alive as they were all Demihumans.

10:12 "Will you do the sensible thing, or be governed by your ire and wants?" Good saying, that's something people should ask themselves more often (though it's not completely their fault, since we're often in environments engineered to make people want things, and that favor confrontation instead of dialogue).

I own a MUD based off of 2nd edition DnD. It is based in Faerun and It used to be called Shadowdale Mud. Shadowdale was our starter zone. I can safely say that elminster is living fine next to his tower. He is lonely as we dont have much players anymors, but he is enjoying the world with hundreds of zones and thousands of items and monsters.

Just wanted to say thank you so much, Ed, for creating this wonderful fantasy setting and investing so much passion and energy into The Realms over the decades. I’m just getting back into fantasy after a 25+ year break from the genre and I’m loving it now more than ever! There’s so much Realms literature to choose from, it’s overwhelming, but I’m starting with the Elminster series. Spellfire was the very first Realms book I ever read, as a 14 year old back in the summer of 1990 and I have so much fondness for it, so Elminster’s saga seems like a fitting place to jump right back in…

And if so did those characters make it into the realms officially?

I do love all these videos Ed is outputting but are there plans to return to Waterdeep lore? He did that one video a few months ago and asked what places and people of the city we'd like to lnow more and there were a TON of awesome requests. It seems like making a playlist / collection of Waterdeep lore would help GMs and Waterdavian lovers hooked on these videos a wee bit more and also more engaged.

Oh, I have plans! There's SO much Waterdeep lore that has to be woven in that they take a lot of time. I have to travel to another country, seizing gaps in my day job to do so, to record these videos, so we do them in batches, and it can take a long time for "the next chance" to revisit something. Rest assured that I haven't forgotten Waterdeep, at all, and there WILL be more!

@@edgreenwoodofficial Capital, my good man! I was a bit worried it was just a flash in the pan, so thank you for clarifying. I know content libraries aren't built in a day and it's hard to tease what's coming next in videos when they're done in batches, that's very true. It warms my heart to know it's still at the forefront of your mind! I love Waterdeep so much I started calling myself The WaterDAVian on my Dnd Channel, so I am eager to weave the lore into my own playful machinations as much as possible.

Shadowdale sounds like heaven relative to the rest of the drama that happens around Faerun. I should start retiring my characters there instead of consigning them to my ever-growing list of undead 😂 I'm quite curious about the frost folk (from which frost men are derived) and their stomping grounds; from what I could glean on the wiki, their range goes from the North of the Hordelands (if they still bear that name) all the way to the Sea of Moving Ice. Without the infrastructure of roads that the southern lands have, I'm curious as to how they were able to disperse across such a wide range while still co-existing alongside many of the competing tribes, monsters, giants, and demons that dot the northern landscape of Faerun. Perhaps Sossrim and their shared lineage might provide some answers? A video on Sossal would be quite the treasure trove!

I would never contradict the man himself but I thought Mordenkainen defeated Strahd not Larloch when he lost his marbles.
@edgreenwoodofficial
@edgreenwoodofficial 9 ай бұрын
You're quite right, but Larloch then sailed in to seize the chance to take Mordy down and grab what magic he could. Mordenkainen defeated him, but the mental damage was considerable, taking Mordenkainen from "bouts of madness" to "dangerous to be anywhere near, anytime." Which was when El (with divine approval) stepped in to really nursemaid him, beginning the mind-healing that Storm later took cover and continued.
