Hopefully this isn't just a mental exercise but instead helps your actual game! What other kinds of adventure resources would you like to see me cover? It's thanks to your support that I'm able to continue making these videos, appearing at conventions, and creating new lore: patreon.com/EdGreenwood

Mr. greenwood, It is ALWAYS good to hear more characters being created for others to use here. A realm with out beings in it is rather empty.

I always want to use some "underworld" contact or patron. Personally i like poison dealers; a yuan-ti merchant house that wants you to search for this particular spice in the jungles of Chult (could be something innocent like pepper.. maybe not) or a kind of "elon musk" pirate tipe, that wants you to capture a human sorcerer alive - and he can pay good coin! P.S. I really love your videos!

Supposedly, in the earliest version of BG3, the name Withers was not even used, he was just called Jergal. I do kind of like his alias though. One of the names of Jergal is "The Guardian of Tombs", though, and as you may remember, on the plaque that tomb was written "Here lies the Guardian of Tombs, through knowledge comes atonement". If I remember and understand correctly, Withers is not actually helping the party willingly, but is tasked to do so by Helm, who, I suspect, also is the "he" in his "So he has spoken, and so thou standest before me, right as always".

Hmm, I can totally see myself using this family of nobles. My party passes thro the little holding of Roodhills and they get one of the noble Ladies tagging along on an adventure. I think I'd make Tasheera an Arcane Trickster with a Psionic feat, that'd fill out her well rounded skills, her gift in the Art and her hands on approach to things. Pelarla maybe a fighter, I would have thought maybe swords bard but she doesn't have the Gift so she'd probably be more of a "showy" sort of fighter (like a gladiator) than a true bard. Glaraema might be the best of the sisters fit to be a bard, she wants stories to tell and to be writer. I can imagine her being an avid reader and fan of Volo. Great content, thanks for the characters and lore, Mr.Greenwood! Please keep being awesome!

I love these characters! I’m currently running a forgotten realms campaign where the party is going to be assisting the Steel Dragon Zunderyazylem in forwarding her ambitions. It’s a dragon heavy campaign, but I intend on them adventuring all over. It’ll be fun when they go Cormyr if they interact with nobility.

I have played sandboxes in the Realms for decades - possibly from the first publication (I have at least 3 different versions of the map) - and have had much fun bringing world-molding changes to my setting. You might not “approve” everything I’ve done, but it was all reasonable, dynamic & responsive to circumstances, and lots of fun! I will integrate House Crownrood into our game. Thanks for fueling my imagination & enabling my players!!

Thanks for this! I'll have to work the Crownroods into a future adventure. For a future installment, how about a local custom or festival that some adventuring party can blunder into, or be invited to take part in on their travels? Perhaps it's of a sinister bent, or sows the seeds for an adventure in its own right... or perhaps, it's just a fun diversion for a more lighthearted session!

I've been wanting to do an Underdark short story. Then base Drow player characters off of it. The story is dark and sadistic, but it's framed in beautiful majestic alluring tones. You know what's wrong in their society but strangely enough, you can't turn away as it ensnares the curious, haters., powerful, and weak-minded. The characters would be born from different PoV's of the story, and if surviving the dark web of eccentricities to escape or secretly ally with the Underdark to unknown ends. I'm working towards something original but still fits in the setting of the forgotten realms. Does anyone have good reference material to help archive that?

Crownrood or Crownrude? You probably already were asked.
@pedrostormrage9 ай бұрын
20:55 You created Jergal? Okay, I need to ask this then: what do you think of Jergal's characterization (and the associated lore) in Baldur's Gate 3? As far as I understand it, Jergal is (supposed to be) neutral (""caring for little besides an orderly accounting of the fate of the world as it slowly sank into death""), but he seems to be pretty much good-aligned in Baldur's Gate 3 (he definitely seems to care about opposing the illithids' Grand Design and stopping the Dead Three). Also, in the game he said "mind flayers are devoid of apostolic souls", but (if you define a "soul" as a creature's source of consciousness) that seems to contradict the fact mind flayers can act as independent beings when not under the influence of an elder brain (it feels as if Jergal is telling you that to convince you mind flayers are "lesser beings", so you'd have no qualms about killing them). Some people also have pointed out mind flayers can become liches (illithiliches), which implies they have a soul. Perhaps their soul is just not of the apostolic (claimed by gods) variety, and because of that the gods (Jergal included) don't favor them? On that note, I feel like Jergal (and the Dead Three) are important enough to deserve videos of their own (so there's a suggestion for the future!). Besides that, it seems the game is (gonna be) considered canon in the Forgotten Realms (it's even used as a reference in the Forgotten Realms wiki), but I'm not sure how consistent it is with the existing lore (so I'm also curious on your opinion about that, and if there's any inconsistency that stands out, or what lore elements were specifically introduced by the game). That might also be worth a video topic by itself.

"Neutral characters generally prefer good characters to succeed rather than evil characters, after all, good characters are easier to get along with" But regardless, nearly ALL gods oppose the illithids and anything far realm adjacent
@pedrostormrage9 ай бұрын
@@override367 Thanks for the reply! Out of curiosity, where is that quote/definition from? It makes sense in general (especially for mortal true neutral characters), but I'm not sure how much of that applies to Jergal (in BG3 you just find him in a tomb, pretty much removed from everything). I think it also makes sense for gods in general to be opposed to mind flayers (since they just kill/enslave their followers), but considering how Jergal is basically a "death accountant", I don't see how he'd have stakes in anything (which is why he easily gave up his position to the Dead Three: that's how much he doesn't care). The Forgotten Realms wiki does have an entry on The Church of Jergal, but again, I don't know how much Jergal would care about his own followers.
@edgreenwoodofficial6 ай бұрын
Jergal was added to the game by Realms editor, designer, and fiction writer James Lowder, replacing my original god of the dead, so I transferred all of the lore for that god into Jergal, and fused them.

Crownrood or Crownrude?
@koh1234539 ай бұрын
Based on the video I would say, “yes.” Lol Could be a really fun source of family turmoil. With half of the family desiring the name to be spelled, “Crownrood” and the other half wishing for it to be spelled “Crownrude.” I can definitely tell you that I will be using that!

Wait, wait, wait! Mr. Greenwood, My memory is a bit fuzzy here, but can Characters have both magic AND psionics? I though that was not possible, or am I just being confused? And does she have normal weave magic or Shadow magic? The picture you used for her is throwing me off here.
@Lusa_Iceheart9 ай бұрын
If Tasheera just has a smattering of psionic powers, then it could be portrayed as a feat to get that ability, so wouldn't have any conflict with a class. At least assuming 5th edition rules which I suppose is the assumption. I figure it's the normal weave not the shadow weave since like, that's sorta frowned on and the War Wizards doing the test probably would have noticed it... especially after the recent war with Netheril and Shar devotees.
@edgreenwoodofficial6 ай бұрын
In the Realms, from the very beginning (pre D&D), all entities MAY have "wild talents" even if they lack the Gift (the ability to wield the Art, or in D&D terms "arcane magic"). Some wild talents are what the game calls psionics. And yes, rare beings can have both magic and psionics. (Note: rules changes from edition to edition DO NOT trump Realmslore. These days, Wizards often behaves as if they do, but the original Realms agreement, which is their legal claim to the Realms, has it otherwise.)

Why are these videos edited like Ed Greenwood is Bill Nye? So many cuts, zooms/pans, and unnecessary text on screen split up with b-roll makes these videos look like it doesnt trust us to watch the entire thing. If I wanted DND Cocomelon I would watch DND Shorts.
