I would like to point out that if we're optimizing for dino density something that can help a little is by only using as many fetch type lands you can afford, instant/sorcery ramp spells, and not mana rocks. Each instant/sorcery one would remove minimum 2 cards from your library vs the mana rock's one, increasing the chance of hitting a dino. This can add up as games with Gishath usually go for a long time due to the amount of board wipes being played. Gishath is a creature value cannon. Opponents have to wipe to survive or single target Gishath. This makes ramp pretty much NEVER a dead draw (Gishath cost is thicc). In addition to this, add some unblockable like Rogue's Passage & Whispersilk Cloak, along with Elixir of Immortality, because if you get to the point where Gishath can't hit any more dinos, you lose.
@elijahbarfoth18324 жыл бұрын
I have personally found the deck thinning isnt as good anymore once Gishath starts attacking since u start putting the misses on the bottom, then it becomes awkward when u draw a fetch or Cultivate type card but u know for a fact the 5 bottom cards are a miss, since u would be randomizing the misses back into the deck. Also elixir might be better(i havent tried it yet) but i currently play Noxious Revival and Bow of Nylea. Revival help put a dino on top for a guaranteed hit in mid game and doesnt cost u mana to do so. Bow of Nylea give Gishath deathtouch which is fantastic on him and also lets u put 4 cards back into ur library after some sweepers. It also make the late game shuffle effects better since u will only be adding dinos usually so fetch start increasing your density again after u have Bow of Nylea going.

Warstorm Surge is an absolute all star in my gishath deck. With so many big power dinosaurs entering the battlefield off of Gishath's trigger, it can dish out tons of damage. And its a real cheap include right now.
@akirra928 ай бұрын
I play Zero rule with 2 mox's in my Gishath deck. Once popped Gishath off turn 3 for 4 dinos. One was Etali Primal conquer into two deck search cards for a total of 7 creatures. That turn 3 Gishath win will never be forgotten.
@redwillow18533 жыл бұрын
Two cards I find incredibly useful in this deck are Domri, Anarch of Bolus and Urza's Incubator. Domri has a lot of utility. He can generate extra mana and keep your dinos from getting countered. Enables enrage triggers. Lastly he buffs your board. Urza's Incubator is just a solid cost reduction card that replaces Knight of the Stampede real well.
@Nr4747 Жыл бұрын
Domri is definitely a solid option, but cost reducers are, unfortunately, not as great in Gishath decks as they would appear to be. That's because you'll often not be able to really use the "extra mana" to double spell since Gishath rarely has enough room for plenty of card draw. And getting Gishath himself out too early can make you too much a target, even in more casual groups. The end result will often be spot removal aimed at him, or a board wipe shortly after you got a huge board full of dinos. None of those things would normally be real concerns, but Gishath actually has quite a few problems with fitting enough dinos into 99 cards already, even without running cost reducers.
@HexQuesTT3 жыл бұрын
I have a Gishath deck which is fairly tuned at this point and even still I found some great recs through this, I like to keep it somewhat budget and low salt so I don't use things like The Great Henge, Growing Rites of Itlimoc, Smothering Tithe etc, and so this contained so many good recommendations like Lurking Predators, you've also convinced me to ditch the humans and go full dinos with Kaheera. I'd like to recommend Noxious Revival as often you can use it to bring back a dino that got destroyed earlier using gishath's ability as it brings it back to the top of the deck. I also like to run things like Blood Mist and Berserkers Onslaught to give Gishath Double strike, combine it with an Unleash Fury for an Instant KO on a player with commander damage, I'd also HIGHLY recommend Quartzwood Crasher as it does a TONNE of work for the deck I also rly don't like Burning Suns Avatar, this dck doesn't run a tonne of red mana so it's pretty hard to cast and even when you do after you trigger it's ETB it's just a 6/6 body

If you're not playing Aether Flash in a Gishath deck you really should try it. It's great for triggering enrage and keeping small blockers and tokens off the field for when you swing with dino daddy. Side note, if you ARE playing Aether Flash and you're not using the frozen dino art then you're doing it wrong.

Not Of This World is easily one of my favorite additions to my Gishath deck recently. It's a 7 mana colorless counterspell that counters a spell or ability that targets a permanent you control. The best part however is that it's a free cast if the spell or ability targets a creature with 7 or greater power. Gishath is 7 power on his own, which means it's a great way to ensure he gets through with 1 attack even when you're tapping out to cast him!

This video was great! I was thinking of building a Gishath deck forever, so this just pushed me over the line for doing it. One thing i did differently was to focus a lot more on enrage, running cards like Splintering Wind and Caltrops, these are very budget and consistent ways to trigger enrage on the entire board at least once a turn :)

I would also include Reclaim, Noxious Revival, and Colfenors Urn. Duelist Heritage is a really fun card in EDH and is great for Gishath. Strionic Resonator might be worth an include as well. For ramp I think Wild Growth, Utopia Sprawl, Trace of Abundance, and Fertile Ground are super worth their slots. Cacaphodon loves them (except for Trace of Abundance, they dont play well together.) Gish was the first deck i built and a month back I just upgraded it with Kaheera in mind for fun. I upgraded the landbase cause naya fetches and good lands are cheaper than other color combos. I also cut all the cards i had to proc enrage since i didn't see many times it swung the game. My advice is you need more wipes. with gish you will almost always have a free swing and you bounce back incredibly fast. The only card i miss from my cut creatures is xenagos.

Coming back to this a few months into magic (while I'm building my first commander deck), I just wanted to add that in the months of me playing Explorer on MTGA, I don't remember ever having thunderherd migration but no dinosaur to show for it. Maybe it happened and I forgot but surely at less than 1% of occasions. If that happens, you're not playing enough dinosaurs, lol. I like that you mention at 6:52 that it's OK to use some of these cards due to flavor, because I think that's exactly what most people are doing (including me). I built my own Gishath deck to be around a 5 of 10, and several cards are meant to be bad, but insanely cool. I even try to get Fungusaur big... I also use "Deadshot" that is only used in 22 other decks to tap down a big defender and get rid of another lesser defender, to clear the way for Gishath. Triassic Egg is also a "must include" event though it's bad. PS, you guys just had an episode where you discussed "Lotus Bloom". I think that this card is excellent in Gishath builds for getting him out fast.

I demoted Gishath to the 99 and made Atla Palani the commander of my Dino deck. That way you can leave the humans in and still get all the sweet mana cheating goodness.
Sorry, Joey, I need to disagree with you on cutting Forerunner for Kaheera. You can have other tutors in to get you the Forerunner, and the enrage enabling is a combo monster: with the right dino taking damage every turn you can ramp (Ranging Raptors), you can draw cards (Ripjaw Raptor), you can exile opponents' creatures (Trapjaw Tyrant), you can give all your dudes +1/+1 counters (Bellowing Aegisaur), make opponents sac permanents (Sliverclad Ferocidons)... for multiple turns in a row as long as you can protect the Forerunner. That's way too much upside to lose for a minor power buff. Shared Summons lets you tutor up the Forerunner and whatever combo piece you need.

Seems like Gishath kind of needs some Whispersilk Cloak/Rogue's Passage type cards so he can swing in for full damage reliably, nothing worse than casting him and having no good attacks. Two 3/3s double blocking means you've probably just tapped out so you can looked at a land on the top of your library, and your commander died so now it costs two more mana. Whispersilk Cloak at the very least is worth it to give him shroud on top of the main effect, because if people can't kill Gishath with blockers they're going to try to do it with spells. I don't have an EDH Gishath deck but I played a deck with him when he was in standard and there were a lot of games where he didn't get to do his thing because he was killed by a spell or my opponent threw enough creatures in front of him to kill him and deny me the effect. Also I feel like it should have one or two more haste enablers but I always want my creature decks to have haste because I've been blown out too often, so maybe that's just me.
