when i was younger, i felt i wanted to be a botanist, but i didnt think that would get me anywhere. i pursued a job in computer networking. my private school was caught committing 700k of fraud and my credits were invalidated. i pursued another passion, locksmithing, and i like it, 6 years later. i am only recently rediscovering my desire to grow plants again. I hope i get the chance.

8:12 what are the "cold tolerant" varieties of banana which do good there in Ojai? I have a Raja Puhri (spelling ?) banana which is growing very well in Vista, California 92081, so far it has made small finger sized bananas. It does well at my very windy hilltop since the plant is very short and does not blow over like some taller varieties I have tried growing. I also have another banana which does excellant , a short plant with medium sized bananas , but no one knows what variety it is.
@justdriveon9 ай бұрын
Some cold-tolerant banana varieties that can grow relatively well in a Mediterranean climate include the Musa basjoo, Musa sikkimensis, and Musa velutina. These varieties can handle cooler temperatures better compared to other banana species, but they still require protection from frost and prefer warmer conditions.

My mom lives on the ventura side of the border that divides ventura and los angeles counties. Hardiness zone 10a. Her property isnt huge but theres enough room to implement some of these ideas. I've been wanting to create a permaculture food forest there for some time. I believe with enough patience and hard work we can achieve a micro climate that attracts beneficial wildlife as well. Sorry to see that this channel no longer creates content. This was a good video.

How do the fruit trees get watered from May thru September? There must be very little runoff then… I’m in SoCal down in East County San Diego. We’re planning a few fruit trees but concerned about the amount of irrigation
@geoffreyvanpelt61472 жыл бұрын
To have enough water for the summer, you need to retain as much rainwater on your property as possible. If your neighbors did it too, you all benefit. You can find good info here: kzbin.info

he said he took over the land. so sections are in about a year and section are bring it back to life. keep in many cali farmers went belly up due to drought. not preparing their land for drought. not deep mulching. not setting up effective systems even though they have been told for 20 plus years and have access to no interest loans. that these issues would come up.

Where did you get your compost material? Seem a large land to compost How did you do it?
@CElton-mi3il Жыл бұрын
When I lived in California I found tree trimmers liked to get rid of mulch because they would have to pay to drop it at the city compost facility. A website called chip drop will connect you with the companies who want to get rid of wood chips.
