Great comparison. It helped convince me to buy a pair of 1080BTs that were on a clearance special for $60 to use with my bedroom TV. I have had a pair of 1280BTs for 2 years now with my 75" living room TV and am very happy with them. They really fill the room with sound that is very balanced. i have to be careful because I'm in a condo building with neighbors both sides. Really heavy bass can be easily heard through walls but the Edifier 1280s are just right and never a complaint from neighbors though I can push the volume fairly high. My living room is about 360 square feet, 10 foot ceilings and the 1280s can really fill it with full sound. I tried the 1080s in the living room and while they were fine at mid volume, straight on, they struggled to fill the room with balanced sound, especially at high volume. However, in the smaller 150 Sq. foot bedroom, the 1080s were great and able to fill that room with fully balanced sound. The 1080 speakers are on a moveable stand with a 43" TV. I originally had a $200 sound-bar with this TV but the speakers are much better than the sound-bar on all levels at less than half the price.

I'm definitely not an audio engineer, but given that the 1080 has a backfiring vent and the space behind the speakers is largely empty without reflection, shouldn't that impact the sound? I mean if there was a wall behind the 1080 that would improve the bass, wouldn't it? apart from the clearly weaker bass in this video, I like the sound of the 1080 better, the 1280 sounds muffled.

1080T sounds kind a flat to me. IMHO, putting more reflectors inside the box would not help much it may even weaken the already weak bass. Also may create unexpected resonances.

@@grinkz0152 check out metalhead. I don't give a fuck about bass because it is space and user dependent. However the 1280 line has a scoop and peak in the mids and high mids. scoop at around 750 and peak at around 3-6 khz. This is catastrophic for guitars and human voices. It alters the music and needs corrections. Not that the other speaker is perfect but it does sound closer to the source track here. Also you can eq in out a lot of stuff or add a sub anyway.

I tested the 1280T, it is not a good speaker despite the hype. V-shaped frequency with muddy mids, which gives an uninteresting listen very soon. The 1080 sounds more balanced here, but it has very weak ability to recreate instruments' real sound according to this record.

Both sound underpowered but the 1280s are wider and boomier. The 1080s are too thin and would sound much better with a little more power and better port tuning - they should get the engineers who designed each to sit down in the same room together.

you mean 'classical songs' as classical music? If yes, then I would suggest neither. Classical music really demands relatively flat frequency response and good sounding instruments, and the closest you can have to this price range are the entry studio monitors like the Mackie 524. The Mackie is actually quite competent considering its price with relatively flat response, and it is capable of recreating the sound of different instruments nicely. I prefer its violin to anything in its price range.

Dear friend, I ended up buying the r1080bt exactly by Bluetooth. She arrived yesterday and I went to test. I really liked the sound ... I thought it was beautiful! BUT I have a problem: I can't increase or decrease the volume on my cell phone when it's on Bluetooth .... I can only change the volume using the box button (I have a Galaxy S10 + and my wife an S10). Neither we nor my wife's cell phone did it ... I think my box has a problem. (Because I have a jbl and even a box from China and it works normal). Are you able to increase and decrease the volume of yours when it is connected via Bluetooth on your cell phone?

These 2 cost exaxtly the same in my country. I'm no audiophile but it seems R1280db sounds better but it's just too big for my desk. I might have to go R1080bt. I'm sure it'll be an upgrade over my simple 2.1 speakers anyway. I have a question, would a skin ruin the sound quality of speakers? White speakers dont fit the theme of my desk. Thank you

Skin would not impact the sound in any significant way but there is a black version of R1080 available as well.

Обоим системам не хватает динамического диапазона и музыкального разрешения, но с учётом цены-простительно. 1080 звучат посуше, но более сбалансировано, а у 1280 есть подгуживание на верхнем басе. 1280 крайне желательно подключать к сабвуферу, благо такая возможность есть, и вот тогда они раскроются и приятно удивят. Но по стоимости такой комлект выйдет как R2750. И в таком случае уже лучше, возможно, взять именно 2750. Надо слушать. Пожалуйста сравните R2750 vs R1280+subwoofer
