The major difference between the R1700BT and R1700BTs is the BTs has a subwoofer output. That's a huge consideration for some people.

Great review Ryan. I just received my R1700BTs today. I followed along with everything you stated about the speakers and I agree with mostly all you said. When I went out to pick up the box (Amazon delivered), I was quite surprised at the weight of the box. I had to readjust my stance to maintain the weight of these speakers. I unboxed them and placed them on my bookshelf of my office. They are very aesthetically attractive and they put out a great sound. I will probably purchase another pair for one of the other rooms in my house. Thanks Ryan!

Would you recommend these for serious broke music producers? Like, I saw Presonus Eris 3.5, their freq response is 80 to 20khz and R1700bt have 60 to 20khz...
@jazzforever4631 Жыл бұрын
Well Presonus Eris 3,5 are recording monitors. In another word a production tool. They are almost flat, even emphesize mid range, which is important for having real picture what in mix IS WRONG. So for casual listening they might cause fatique. And they likely resonant round 100-150 Hz. Might tbe he result of Bass Reflex (I have filled it with foam). But Edifier is for daily enjoy of listening of various audio material. They sound incredibly pleasant. Technically wise, it is advanced one. They have Bi-Amping, tweeters have its own stereo amplifier and woofers as like. So they have four pin cable. inter box connection And they have built in "loudness" device ballancing high and lows on various power settings. I use both Eris and Edifier in studio. Eris for critical reference (like "aurratone") and Edifier giving me the real picture how listener hears my music.

Love the review, but these - are not studio monitors. They are quite biased and bass heavy, which can be eq'ed easily - meant for an easy connectivity/ consumer listening. I mean you can use them, if you need for your mixing, but would not as flat as Mackies or Yamahas would get. And they do not have 1/4 inch in for a proper Audio interface.

If yall are concerned about the lack of a sub out on these speakers, just buy an RCA Y splitter. Then you'll be able to use a sub. The splitter has male on one end and 2 female on the other end. This adapter will plug into your computer or other device. Here's an example: www.amazon.com/ROCKRIX-Female-Speaker-Adapter-Splitter/dp/B08PKS42P6/ref=asc_df_B08PKS42P6/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=475825775681&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10425271640149655107&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9025513&hvtargid=pla-1163174276384&psc=1 You'll also need 2 RCA cables with male on both ends, one for the speakers and the other for your sub. One end connects to the speaker/sub. The other end connects to the female ends of the Y splitter. It's hard to explain it in words, but it's really a simple setup. Keep in mind your sub must have RCA as an input option!

Thanks for the great content! Thanks in advance! Subscribed :)
@jimbeam71603 жыл бұрын
The BT is not on, until you turn it on. When BT is on, there is a little blue light that tells you....when not using BT, the little green light is on. Believe me....you'll want the BTs because of the sub out, and because it's an updated speaker with the 5.O blue tooth Codec. Wait, you don't like using Bt? Well.....the BTs has sub out. You'll eventually want to connect a sub to fill out the low end wherever you set your bridge. I used the 1700BTs for a couple of months without the sub......and finally got The Edifier T5 powered sub, and.......it was a big change...a big difference. I doubt there is any other speaker below $500 bucks that can compete with the 1700 BTs connected to a decent sub. I doubt there is a better-cheaper sound signature for $285 (1700BTs costs $160 + Edifier T5 sub for $125). You could look at this speaker if you aren't gonna use blue tooth and don't want a sub: www.edifier.com/us/en/speakers/r2000db-bookshelf-speaker-bluetooth-optical-rca Not too long ago, Edifier knocked the price down to $200 as a St. Patrick's day sale. It's got a bigger woofer and an older BT codec.

I use them on my pc they are fine.not even a pair of yamaha hs8 studio monitors with the sub base unit could hit a 10hz bass note. Where would you even find an off the shelf budget speaker that even plays 10hz bass note?

sounding good for this price means that they are of poor quality because the price is low

They have no bass!! And before audiophiles jump to my neck, yes they only have 60Hz+ response but there is no compression to the point that you can't hear instruments with some songs. DO NOT buy these as speakers for your computer, in fact, do not buy these at all. Luckily I got the S version which supports a subwoofer which I'm waiting for because otherwise these are useless.
