@jonnyr60923 жыл бұрын
Does anybody else remember the Waverley Market (changed to the Princes Mall and is now called Waverley mall) in the 80's and early 90's? It was beautiful, had a big water feature and art sculptures in the center, full of lots of interesting and unique shops and bars down on the bottom level. There was even a guy playing a piano at one point if I remember right. They took the water feature out and tiled over everything in the 90's to cram in lots of fast food places and a sea of plastic chairs, all the interesting shops started to leave as high street shopping went into decline. To me it symbolizes more than any other place the decline of the shopping mall as not only a place to shop but a place to gather and socialize.

You have to go back many times to scratch the surface of this magnificent City. I've been coming here on and off since I was 11 and I'm now 63. It's been a long time since I was there - 1991. I'm glad to see Deacon Brodie's Tavern is still there. When I was there, the rugby world cup was on, and I nipped into the pub for a cold one. There were two guys sitting at the bar watching a game on TV. Being Canadian, I knew nothing about the game, but they took the time to fill me in on what was happening. I spent a couple of days there, touring the city. As for the Burns link, on that same trip, I was searching out some family ghosts in Dumfries, and found out that's were Burns died. He was an exciseman there. There's a pub called The Old Globe Inn where he drank. They have a chair with a bronze plaque on it saying "The Poet's Chair". I visited his final resting spot in the graveyard. It's amazing to think how much work these people put out at such an early age. Burns died at 37.
@LetsWalkUK3 жыл бұрын
Fascinating to hear all that from you! The city must have been full of life during the Rugby World Cup - and you can always find a friendly face or two to watch a match with in the pubs of Edinburgh! I've never been to Dumfries before - so I think that'll have to be a future walk with the fascinating history you've just told us about, that's quite the knowledge you have of Burns' later years! It is amazing as you say how much of an impact these men had in such short lives - Robert Fergusson only lived until he was 24! Thank you so much for watching - I really hope you enjoyed this walk around Edinburgh, it's always lovely to hear your thoughts on different towns and cities around the country :)

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this glorious epic walk ! As a child I red a lots about the tumultuous fight between Scotland and England, I've been watching so many movies and documentaries, about Grand Britain's history, but never had so many precious information. My whole life I've been fascinated about Edinburgh, and hopefully, I April, i booked a week in Scotland, and my driving will come through ! Without intending to say something wrong, I have 2 things to mention: The bagpipes was used in Tracia (Dacia) ,actually Romania, from thousands of years, and are still available, and second :I was to concentrate on my writing, and I couldn't admire the fabulous scenery. Anyway, I'll watch again ,concentrating on the beautiful video. Thanks again and congratulations 👏

Agreed! There are few places quite as beautiful as Edinburgh - and a walk through its gorgeous streets is truly spectacular :) Thank you so much for watching - I really hope you enjoyed the video!

lol you obviously have never lived there. It's dirty, smelly, scruffy, nothing gets fixed, the government abuses the city locals - that's the facts, no offense, just wanted to tell the truth. Locals can't even get emergency ambulances, they are told to get a taxi to hospital. Yeah Edinburgh sure is beautiful.

Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Edinburgh looks like a wonderful place to see. Beautiful and historic😊💕. Would you consider filming a walk through of Peter’s Head, Scotland? My grandfather immigrated to America from that town. Would love to know more about it😊😊

It certainly is a wonderful place - Edinburgh is one of the greatest cities in the world, and a gorgeous spectacle to visit! Thank you for mentioning Peterhead too - I'll add it to my list of future destinations, though I might not have the chance to make it up to Scotland until next summer, so do stay tuned over the next year for a walk up there and in other places around Aberdeenshire :)
