EDINBURGH: See new car-free spaces, traffic calming infra, and protected bike lanes (Part Four)

This is the grand finale of my tour of Edinburgh with Emilia Hanna, the Head of Programme for the National Cycle Network for Sustrans Scotland. We start out by leaving Coalie Park by way of the canal path, then explore some new traffic-calming installations, a couple of car-free spaces, and then ride on a new protected bike lane to close out the tour.

The M8 cutting through the Glasgow city centre really sucks. That area is so dangerous and you can smell the pollution. Hopefully at one point they will get rid of it.

Imagine if England had a world-class bike infrastructure system that was well-maintained. And that it supported permaculture and youth hostels along the route. It would be a great jobs program that would continuously reap benefits to businesses all along them. That means more tourism and more tax revenue, creating more jobs. I hope Britain and all the British Isles invest in this system and make it the best in Europe.

There is some confusion as to the exact requirements: [...] [Refusing an exemption, the council noted there were over 200 bus and coach operators in Scotland, many of which would have buses which met the LEZ requirements.
