Two tips. If get to Aberdeen, get the number 3 bus to Cove and walk the Cliff edge that the train pretty much follows. Well worth it. 2nd tip travel back to Stonehaven. Bonus Tip there is a wonderful train ticket that allows almost unlimited travel over 4 days. Use this and throw in montrose (and the Bamse walk) and Arbroath. You will not be disappointed, I promise.

My wife & I and aunts Helen & Sue visited Dunnottar Castle 🏰 in Stonehaven in June that year. Dead 😵 stunning 🤩. As quaint and modest a town Stonehaven is, long point short that town harboured a rather painful 😣 history for me regarding a former friend of mine who repeatedly 🔁 let me down time and time again which I won’t go through. Initially it put me off going back there but that week-long trip up 🆙 there in June 2021 gave me some much-needed closure. And so it all ended well…

The expression "like painting the Forth Bridge" has become part of the English language. Essentially, it takes 5 years to paint and the paint lasted 5 years. Now the paint that's on the bridge will last 20 years, the job is completed and rarely now will you see scaffolding for painting. It looks absolutely beautiful without it. Of course, anyone who now uses that expression should be reminded the job is now finished! As a boss of mine once said, if you argue for your limitations you get to keep them!

Thanks for this. Had the pleasure of this trip (only as far as Arbroath, where I spent a week). It was in March, and there was a bit of foul weather during my stay, but it broke and I was able to enjoy a bus ride and an afternoon up at Dunottar. Fond memories! As a 'Murrican, I love the narration and what I call an accent, though you might disagree. Also, I enjoyed the snappy 'music'. I've also taken the trip from Edinburgh out to the west, to Oban. Both lovely journeys. I'll travel there again any time I get the chance. Love the granite! Second only to malt.

Lovely video. My wife and I have a short trip coming up to Edinburgh in the New Year after having been there for the first time in years earlier in the year. I fancied taking a train to see the Forth Bridge, but in the end have booked a day trip to Dundee, so we'll see two famous bridges, as well as another city. What's more, we are going first class on LNER. We are looking forward to the 'trip within a trip' LNER's ability to select exact seats at the time of booking is fantastic ... why can't others offer this ?

Will be travelling with Mrs from Aberdeen south - to London Kings Cross (then St Pancras on the very similar trains at 140 mph to the Kent coast). Travelling first class (good price advance tickets with railcard). My gripe is that the two together seats are on the right, so will be wrong side of train to see the coast, there is only one table on the left, all other left side seats are for single travellers.
