Very informative and helpful video Mike, I’m looking to fly from East Fortune to Aberdeen in my gyrocopter via the Edinburgh zone in the near future so videos like yours are very helpful and welcome.

Loved that vid. A lot of talking and radio work, but a really worthwhile and enjoyable flight. Keep up the good work.

Cheers! Yes, it was all that radio work that had put me off, but it's either deal with the radio, or simply don't get to fly there. Glad I did it, and now I'll know better what to expect next time!

Loved this, Mike. It's not often in a flexwing you are given instructions to pass "above and behind the landing 737"! 😮😂 Well done on getting slightly out of the comfort zone whilst keeping safe and well planned. Great stuff! 👍😎😁

frankly what a faff the joys of flying in the UK
@InducedBank Жыл бұрын
Ha ha! To be fair, it is controlled airspace and you have that pretty much everywhere in the world, especially around international airports 🤣

Oh yes I know having a NPPL myself for flex but have stopped flying

Any plans to get back up in the air? Do you miss it?

I never say never but the field I used is 1 1/2 hours away and the costs were getting a bit pricy. I'll probably fly vicariously through channels like yours.

It's such an exciting experience Mike. I think I recognise the Tower controller.

Cheers Giles! It was certainly something I'll remember for a while!!

Now you made a great job of that! I'm yet to venture into Edinburgh Tower control, closest I've been is my side of the bridges, and that's more than stressful enough for me! Does your radio sound as clear in real life as it does in the recording? If it does that's the stuff dreams are made of.

Many thanks! 🙂 I confess this is something I was wanting to do for a while, but the radio stuff was putting me off - but now I know what to expect I'm hoping to return for another transit when time and weather allow 👍 The radio is good, but the recording is a bit better than in real time as it's not picking up the wind noise - that said, it's still pretty good!

Cheers Patrick! Hope to get the chance to do a zone transit again and hopefully it'll pass in less of a blur!!

Would you always advise a t/call first before take off? I would think it would always help in order to prevent any radio probs during the transit. Are ATC happy for that?
@InducedBank Жыл бұрын
Cheer TopCat! I was advised it's best to call ahead, although it's not a requirement. However it does cut down on the initial routing call as they already have your intended route. The other factor is that as I don't have a transponder they may be less willing to accommodate if I just called up out of the blue.

The difference with phoning ahead is that ATC already have a strip for you, which saves the controller a lot of time asking you for your information and creating a strip. This is going to be especially important in the near future when Edinburgh get their new Strip system as VFR flight strip creation is horrendous on it. Current thoughts are to enforce phoning in ahead of any transits. This video touches on some of ATCs issues with strip creation... kzbin.info/www/bejne/qma2ioSraqZ6q80si=YzpXTWStgkLLUDIm

Many thanks - always good to see things from the other side, and understand how we can do things better 👍
