I did a 360 mile trip in my Q4 E-Tron on 20th Dec 2021, this is how it did.
Temperature ranged from 4°C to -2°C, the weather was grim so headlights were on almost all the way.
The car is on the standard 20” wheels with Bridgestones, and it doesn’t have a heat pump.
Apologies for the sound/quality as this was filmed on my phone by my son 😬😂

Thanks for the great video. As someone waiting for delivery of their Q4 (was Feb now end of March!) it’s great to hear what the reality is for range in proper UK road conditions and weather. Although I live way down South in Somerset one of my first long trips in the Q4 will be to Scotland to see In-Laws in Perth which will need a bit of planning for charging stops as it’s close the 450 miles. Looking forward to it!

It’ll be a great car for that distance, assuming the charging works out 😂 It’s so quiet and comfortable I found it very relaxing👍🏻

Hi thanks again for a great video. It’s good to see your car in the real world. I’m from Newcastle but I’m due to pick up my Q4 40 ETron Black Edition on Tuesday 5th December 2023from Aberdeen Audi. Got to say it’s a long way from Newcastle but the guys in Aberdeen have once again persuaded me that it’s worth the journey. I don’t think I can get all the way home from Aberdeen without a charge as it’s around 256 miles. I’m hoping to get as far as Alnwick to hook up with the IONITY charging which is about 200 miles. Do you think I can make it or do you think I might have to stop earlier. Cheers Steve

Hi Steve, Black Edition will be lovely! Looking at the weather for Tuesday it’s gonna be pretty cold. As soon as you start using the heating the range drops- the higher the temperature you set on the HVAC the lower the range lol. Best bet is to ask them to charge it to 100% for you and pre-heat the interior while it’s charging- that way the battery isn’t being used to heat the interior from cold. Use the heated seats as much as possible to keep you warm👍🏻 200 miles should be doable if you drive sensibly lol. Have a back up plan though so if it looks like you’re going to struggle you can get a top up. If you’re heading down the A1 there are Chargeplace Scotland chargers at Wallyford (just outside Edinburgh) which will give you up to 100kW charging (they give 800v cars 150kW)- they’re only a few mins off the A1 and would give you a decent top up to make sure you make it. Let me know how it goes👍🏻

Thank you for your input. From what you’ve said I think I will have to stop before I get down to Alnwick so I may stop where you said or there are some charging stations just off the A1 near Haddington. Like you say it’s going to be cold so I will need a plan in place before I set off. I’ll let you know how it goes. Weird that I haven’t been looking forward to picking up a car as much as this before and I’m 65. 😂

Hi, picked up my car yesterday in Aberdeen, car was excellent but as you mentioned I had to stop for a charge. Stopped at Haddington Retail Park and a quick 34 min charge which got me home to Gateshead with a bit to spare. Got a bit of a shock at £33 but I'm unlikely to be using public chargers very much. Charged my car to 80% overnight for £3.04 so I cant complain. Thanks again for your help. @@edinreviews

Well presented / excellent vlog. Your pit stops were of interest as I didn’t know about Ionity at Perth, so will investigate for my Q4 (should it surface around end Jan). Looking forward to your next Q4 video. Thank you, Stephen.

A great real world review of a typical long range journey. I’m waiting on an Q4 expected delivery is February. My spec doesn’t have navigation in the MMI so I will have to use Google Maps from iPhone. It would be good to see a video showing the difference in charge speed using MMI navigation vs Google Maps. Does the battery preheating make a significant difference when charging?

How do you find the performance of the 50? I really wanted to go with that, but my negotiations with my wife reached a critical point. After talking her up from a second i3 to an E-Niro to an Enyaq 60 to the Q4 40 I had to quit while I was ahead 😢😬😂
@jimyoung3896

The performance is very impressive, if you floor the accelerator it gives you a real push in the back, it's absolutely seamless and it keeps going. I have driven a Tesla Model 3P which has phenomenal acceleration, the 50 is certainly not in that league but I'm not sure why you would need that supercar performance in everyday driving anyway. I bought the 50 because I wanted the quattro drive system but the quick acceleration is a nice bonus!

Can you comment on the 50 range? The official range is 241 but unlike Tesla, the mileage is better than that.. I am looking between this and Model Y.. drove Model 3 for three years and sold it.. now deciding between Q4 and MY... hear lot of road noise issues with Y and that is one of the deciding factor.. Q4 seems to have smooth, quiet ride from all the reviews
@jimyoung3896

@@samkappagantula6818 I did at 112 mile round trip last week, almost wholly on Motorways and dual carriageways at the national speed limit, and got an average of 2.8 miles/kWh. I used 52% of the battery capacity, giving me a real world range of about 215 miles in temperatures between 7.5 C and 9.5 C on dry roads with light winds. I'm anticipating about 250 miles range in the summer. You will definitely get more range from the MY, but the Q4 is indeed quiet and smooth. The seating is also very comfortable on longer trips and the cabin is a lovely place to sit in. I was seriously considering the MY but I am very glad I waited for the Q4. I also think it looks amazing, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

Brill video, should be working but it was interesting!😂 Mines still in fairy land I guess, shocking delivery dates at the minute. I guess it’ll be slightly warmer when mine arrives (April) hopefully, so the range should improve in summer. Still way off the 316 claimed though.. good job again! 👌
@edinreviews

Yeah fingers crossed that in the spring the range will start improving. I think there will be a sweet spot where it’s warm enough not to need the heating on, but not hot enough to need the air con. Will be interesting to see how much it improves by, and how close it gets to the claims🤔

@@timpaterson2872 I’ve not really found anything yet lol. It’s spacious, comfortable, handles well (as long as you remember how heavy it is), looks good and is reasonably efficient. I’d say it’s a bit annoying that Audi have cheaped out and put things on the options list which should be standard eg reverse camera, front parking sensors etc. It’s really obvious on the front as it looks like it has parking sensors and a front camera but in fact there are cheap plastic covers over the holes.

The slow charging speeds at the number of low powered chargers was a bit disappointing. It goes to show that efficiency still wins over super fast charging! Did you get a heat pump with your Q4? I'm also curious about your etron card... the salesman when we test drove a Q4 said nothing about this when I asked him about deals Audi had with public charging networks. So many questions, sorry!!

Hi, I didn’t go for the heat pump as I don’t do lots of distance driving and I charge near my home. The E-tron card was in the glove compartment when the car arrived. I signed up for their Transit tariff which is free for the first year and includes £150 of credit- link is here: www.audi.co.uk/uk/web/en/electric/charging/e-tron-charging-service.html

I love this E-Tron however i don't think Evs are safe I mean imagine a Vulnerable elderly Lady , waiting 42 minutes in a deserted Dark Spot , for criminals is like a Dream come True😓😥 . Before anyone replies insulting surely stoping in the night for few minutes its not the same as stopping for 45 minutes 🧐🤷🏻‍♂️
@edinreviews
@edinreviews 2 жыл бұрын
The length of time for a stop is much longer than a stop for diesel/unleaded so I kind of see your point. If only every EV charge point had a lockable safe space where you could sit, preferably with windows so you could watch for danger🤔😜 You don’t stand outside for 42 mins exposed to danger/weather etc. Once the charge is started then you can get back in the car, lock the doors and sit in comfort👌🏻 The actual time spent outside is probably less than a traditional fuel stop, so I’m not sure the danger is any worse🤔 You’re just as likely to get car jacked getting into your car in a car park/petrol station surely?😱

@@edinreviews while a car is Charging , its completely disabled , even if you Wanted to move in a Emergency there are active Systems , which forces the vehicle to Stay Put , under this cases being Inside car offer no Protection , because Sooner or Later you would have to come out to unplug the car to enable it 🤷🏻‍♂️ . Yes being inside a Car offers loads of protection if the car is active and ready and its not Disabled

@@niceboy60 you can’t drive away while an EV is charging, but you can use the lights/horn/phone to summon help. I’d guess a casual thief is unlikely to try to attack you inside your locked car while you’re blasting the horn and calling the police? 🤔 You’re right, they could wait until you get out to unplug and attack then but that’s just as likely to happen when you’re filling up an ICE car so an EV is no more dangerous🤔
