Nikolette LaBonte, horn Kurt Galvan, piano Recorded live in August 2019 at the Eastman Horn Institute Faculty Recital Edith Borroff Sonata for Horn and Piano (1954) I. Rhapsody II. Scherzo III. Sarabande IV. Estampie
Brilliant playing! Your sound in the "tubby" range right below the treble staff is robust and secure. The horn is a superior solo instrument due to its evocative alpine horn or "woodsy" sound and the fact that so many colors can be produced. The standard double horn is a hybrid of multiple instruments: the natural horn in F, valved horn in F, natural B-flat and valved B-flat and the hand coloring and muting. Wind and brass instruments cannot match the palette of colors produced by singers, violinists and cellists, but the horn comes very close! The instrument also has the finest solo repertoire of the brass.

Hi! I'd try reaching out and sending an email to the American Composers Alliance! I actually was able to get this music through their archive scans since Robert King Music no longer publishes this work.

Did you do any research on this piece? I am writing two papers on it and the deeper I dive into it the more questions I seem to have.

Actually yes! I'm also working on something at the moment! I'd recommend checking out the Composers interview with the ACA or checking out any of her other music history textbooks!
