Unbelieveable Edith Mathis! This has been one of my favorite recordings of all classical music for thirty years: I hope the younger generation learns to appreciate such art!

"The morning" from Phillipp Otto Runge is one of my favored paintings and I visit it often in the "Hamburger Kunsthalle". The light and beautiful voice of Edith Mathis is wonderful with the paintings together.

Thank you for this post. I have always enjoyed Mathis' singing. I had this LP years ago. I wondered why she took the lower ending in the last movement, but still loved it. I only met her once briefly at the 92st Y in NYC. She was gracious and patient with the crowd after the reccital. I believe the Exsultate was written for an Italian castrato.

Was this produced before 1745? if so, then Charles Edward Stuart himself could have heard it!

Great soprano singing. Unfortunately,no man can sing as well as a girl singing well
