Utter MASSACRE of certain pronunciations, which sicken me - WHY?!? I love Dame Edith, certainly eccentric but a v gifted writer. I despise the lazy cavalier US approach to celebrating UK literary GREATS and Dame Edith was magnificent if only you had bothered to read the best biographies. This is sloppy - PLS try better.

Edith Sitwell's mother would rage about the house. If Edith hadn't been the eldest sibling, perhaps things might have been different. Whilst in Scarborough the Sitwell family lived in Wood End, a marine villa bought by Lady Louisa Sitwell in 1879 to which she added a double height conservatory filled with tropical plants and birds which Edith mentioned in her autobiography. Although Edith's relationship with Scarborough was not always a happy one, references to the seaside environment often occur in her work, particularly Facade.
