Emily! Thank you so much for doing this! Okay first of all, my mind is blown 🤯 I totally agree with you about poetry being intentional and precise and now that I see all of my adjectives, I can’t unsee it 😂 (which is brilliant!). Also metre is something I’ve never properly understood until you explained it hahaha! This has been incredibly useful and I’m excited to incorporate these tips into my future stuff! Also, I’m keeping the “I miss you” 😜 Thanks again x ❤️

Interesting comments, and a very interesting thing your doing. As someone who deals mostly in narrative poetry, I tend to feel that there are reasons for meter to be allowed to fluctuate through the poem as long as you can keep it from jangling or tripping up someone reading aloud. Another way of dealing with it could be to fiddle with the rhythm thus: The bees, butterflies, Hummingbirds That thrummed, hummed, Banged against my bones Are dead. Dials up the tension. Having ‘bees’ come before ‘butterflies’ also sounds better to me in terms of the meter.

Your videos are so helpful. I'm also a beginner in writing and thanks to you, realised what I'm doing wrong. You are an amazing person and I'm glad I found your channel! I wrote a collection with 100 poems, there are many that are fine, but a lot of them suffer from that adjective problem you have been talking about. I'll work on that. I'll start a new collection and take my time. Ps.I don't think about publishing them it's more like a hobby I print it out and keep them for myself, just memory purposes😊
