I can't thank you enough! English is not my first language. But I always excelled in both German and English. As good as I did in school, there was, is and will always be room for improvements when it comes to studying languages. Especially when it comes to what was once foreign to you. I write also in my native language Bosnian, beside English and German. I particularly love to write in English. Not for any special reasons, I just find that it sounds more beautiful than both German and Bosnian. ( I do admit, it is the hardest of them) I found all your videos so helpful because you explain everything nice and thoroughly, even more than any teacher in my school has ever done. Thank you again for the awesome videos and for upgrading my knowledge and skills in writing poetry! I love you and your channel!😄

I'm so glad it was helpful to you! I realized after filming this video that a lot of these recommendations are fairly subjective. They're definitely not all grammar "rules" per se. But I think they are good things to think about in terms of writing clearly.

Hi Emily! What do you think is the jumping-off point for the decision of whether to punctuate or not? Is it the simple meaning of the lines? Is it the way the poem is meant to be read? Are there other considerations? I am a believer in grammar for poems but have met many people who dismiss before the writing even begins.

@@simonconstam2705 That's an interesting question. I feel that one of the benefits of using punctuation is that it frees you up to break the lines however you want, with more enjambment than you might be able to reasonably get away with without punctuation. A lot of the time, when I encounter a poem without punctuation, the poet is using the line breaks to provide pauses and differentiate between phrases. So that's one major distinction that I see. I'm honestly not sure what the reasoning would be behind *not* using punctuation, I just know that I have seen it done well so I don't want to dismiss that option. I might have to do more reading on this topic!

Regarding "it", you probably wouldn't like the lyrics of the song "Epic" by Faith No More😂

Your audio is about 100% too low. Use a DB meter to set it properly, never use headphones to adjust it. I have my volume at max, and it sounds like you are 50 feet away.
