Kennith, You chose to use the A7Cii over one of your A1's? What are the advantages of that?.... Was it ease of camera size, or something else?

My Alpha 1 twins have been retired since November 2023 (traded in around April 2024). The Alpha 6000 and 7C II (x2) are the only cameras in my lineup now. The weight, accuracy rate in focusing along with a few other things of the Alpha 1's were the reasons for the early retirement. It also was perfect time to do so, as I didn't lose value on my 1's. I've not missed the 1's and have thoroughly enjoyed going to the C series as my permanent camera. 😊

What light are you using?

Hi! I'm using a Stella Reflex S LED light (can be used as a constant as I did in the video or a strobe with a few varieties in triggers): www.professorhines.com/lighting

I am curious: why you don't use your A1 camera for this shooting? Isn't it the "better" camera?

I haven’t used/owned the Alpha 1’s for 9 months now. The 7C II’s and 6000 are the only cameras I have.

Hey, Professor Hines! Nice video, with lots of information. I am a Lightroom user, classic and also mobile. Lately I’m using mobile as it’s more convenient 😅. However I have a question for you please. Watching your work in this particular video seems to me that all photos you took your model looks like being already processed before you bring them in Lightroom mobile. Why I’m saying that? Because her skin tones looks perfectly and overall photos are nicely soft and warm tones . Usually RAW images looks more rough and edgy and moreover skin tones need to be retouched in PS . If you have an explanation about how you photos in this particular video are already looks like being perfect right after you took them out from your camera, it would help me/ us a lot . Thank you and please keep posting 😊🙏🙏

Great question. I expose my images solely for the subject and nothing else and also for these particular images had my WB set to daylight, giving it the natural warm tone in camera. I shoot portraits in RAW & JPEG so I need my JPEG's to be perfect. In doing so the RAW files are pretty much perfect. All I will do is add more color tinting and address any other blemishes (such as what was on her arms). If I exposed just neutral (0) then that may be too underexposed and I would need to push shadows, which in turn will have noise as an issue - making the skin not be as silky smooth. Better to get the subject right. The background isn't the important factor, but if you expose the subject just enough without clipping background highlights then you can restore that detail in post with a mask adjustment to the background and decrease the highlight levels.

@@professorhineschoice thank you so much for your reply, Professor Hines. I’ll try to follow these settings and hopefully I’ll do improve my skills. Is there any way you teach others to achieve high quality in photography? Taking images and editing in post? Of course paid classes. I kind of struggle achieving good quality photos 🤷‍♂️. My biggest problem is that I’m based in UAE and during summers is very difficult to go out because of the weather, you know how is here because you were here. Thank you and sorry for my long message. 🙏🙏

vertical is un watchable on a real screen ...

It’s quite watchable for me and I’m viewing it on a 14” inch screen. This is a tutorial on Lightroom Mobile, which is a vertical experience… that’s kind of why this is the way it’s recorded. 🙃
