Great job on MGNREGA Mr. Nair! My heart goes out to those of my countrymen who are denied their livelihood because of political considerations. What a shame on the Central Govt.. They act with warp speed in using ED and other Agencies against their political adversaries but look the other side when it comes to helping the poorest sections of our countrymen. Keep on with your single minded mission. You will earn the blessings of those poor people. As regards the call for unity it is most evident that the call is addressed to the majority community not out of love but merely to garner votes. Backward communities be damned after votes are counted. Look at the fate of MGNREGA today. They are hellbent on destroying it as it carries the name of Mahatma Gandhi.

MANREGA program, vital for the survival of rural poor, as you analysed rightly, Sujith, should stir up the conscience of all leaders in the Central Government. These very leaders come into power with the votes of people. But they are least concerned about the rural poor who would like to live with dignity by working through MANREGA Program. But, the leaders in Central Government seem to be concerned about winning in the next election. They mind least about the dignity of rural poor, and rather give freebies with tax payers' money, and ensure their own winning in the election. Such leaders do not have a mindset of dignity, and how csn they uphold the dignity of the poor?

Sujit, you must know by now that our politicians literally care a damn for the people of our country - urban or rural. All that they are interested in, are collecting taxes and spending a major portion on nonsensical ends with the sole aim of either remaining in power or obtaining it by any means. It is a real shame if one goes about the country to see the deplorable road conditions, collapsing sanitation, overcrowding, etc. Even after over seven decades of freedom these basic fundamentals are not in place. It is also a real shame on all governments that the middle class tax payers, after spending a lifetime in a constant struggle to make ends meet, are continued to be taxed on the meagre interest they earn from their savings post-retirement. Prices of essentials continue to rise unabated - just one example: Sunflower cooking oil was retailing at around Rs.102/litre a few months ago. Today it is Rs.129/litre and increasing steadily. How will retired people manage? Private sector employees receive no benefits from the Government by way of a retirement pension or a stipend/basic financial assistance if they lose their jobs while still within the employment age bracket. Even health insurance premium paid out their own pockets is taxed!

Freebies should be curtailed, not withstanding any Govt being in power. Due to these freebies, where every other Govt. is outdoing each other has shattered the agrarian economy, as farm labourers are hardly available and the output is low. Govt should think of building a pension fund and social security net for labourers above the age of 55. Batege to katege slogan is an offshoot of unsavory incidents of stone pelting, tan se sur juda slogans, not allowing illumination of lights, as happened in a housing society in Mumbai by the "peace loving community, for whom the yardstick of secularism does not apply, as per the speaker. Calling in question, the practice of election being held on different dates, does not bring unity, sounds absurd, since it was intended by late Seshan to prevent booth capturing and moving of forces to election centres.
