February 2023 was when I first heard this song (and of the Editors!) and it won me over right away. I am 54 years old and was a huge music fan in my early years, even worked at a record shop. I am STILL discovering music from the late 90's/early2000's that I somehow missed. Thank you, KZbin!

I just wonder if this song is about the fallen in both WW1 and WW2. It's of course just my own interpretation, but it feels as if he is talking about how all those men were sent to their deaths and how they died in loneliness and far away from their loved ones. And the soldier's gestures at the end makes me think of all the horrible ways they must have died, all the possible ways of dying. I have massive love and respect for this song, and I adore Editors.

Sorry for my english..but i'm disappointed. usually we describe a band "LIKE" another when the band has no identity. The DEPECHE MODE are like... DEPECHE MODE (and no others). Same THE EDITORS. The EDITORS are...unique. I like EDITORS and DEPECHE MODE in the same manner.

Send me to Venus, send me to Mars The crippling fear of colliding stars Break from tradition, the first little taste A gentle reminder, the tear on your face But the beat of your heart Is alone in the dark The place where we met is haunted by thieves Sifting through memories, from the foreign leaves Oh, bank us your soul, now race with the clock Immunity over, take a moment, then stop But the beat of your heart Is alone in the dark The beat of your heart The beat of your heart Loneliness forever, loneliness forever Holding back a river, holding back a river All the kings are coming Marching to the sound from your ribcage So send me to Venus, send me to Mars Seen all your failures, all your scars Seen it all burn down, we dance to the sparks We dance to the beating of your broken heart Loneliness forever, loneliness forever Holding back a river, holding back a river All the kings are coming Marching to the sound from your ribcage Oh, let it all burn down We built a house on the sun Oh, let it all burn down We didn't know what we'd done Oh, let it all burn down We built a house on the sun Oh, let it all burn down We didn't know what we'd done Loneliness forever, loneliness forever Holding back a river, holding back a river All the kings are coming Marching to the sound from your ribcage Would you hold on? Would you hold on? All the kings are coming But the beat of your heart Is alone in the dark Beat of your heart Beat of your heart Beat of your heart Beat of your heart

we didn't know what we've done* for the rest good lyrics, thanks! His autotune messed up the first time he says it so it sounds like "we'd", the second time u clearly hear it's "we've"tho
@ItsLoriK8 жыл бұрын
If that's the case I'm disappointed. I know it's sometimes acceptable to use improper grammar in art but I hate it. "Didn't" is past tense but "we've" is present tense. The combo is just so wrong. It should be "we'd" which is past tense like "didn't". I know. I'm being a nerd.
