Stu is a young goalie still learning his game. I think he's been very good so far and will get better with time.

I agree but he dies have some bad moments …I still think we should bring in Gibson to help skinner and mentor him… piccard has been looking real shaky in the last few games he’s played!

How Leon carries the puck behind the goal before the 1-0, puts the defender on his butt with one move, and then delivers that pass! I've already watched it five times today!😅

In basketball they call it "breakin' ankles". Allen Iverson used to do it to defenders with his sick crossover!

They call this 'breaking the ankles' of your opponent, in basketball. Not as common to see in hockey.

Game 43. Long post follows with base game statistics including some for the LA Kings. Read, don't read, up to you. These are BASE stats not detailed ones. My comments and observations at the end. Statistics for LA Kings at Edmonton Oilers January 13th, 2025 Edmonton Oilers: McDavid 1 Goal (GWG) Nurse 1 Primary Assist Draisaitl 1 Secondary Assist Skinner 30 Saves on 30 Shots = 1.000 Save %age LA Kings: Kuemper 29 Saves on 30 Shots = .967 Save %age (57 minutes played) Kings Oilers Shots on Goal 30 30 Hits 8 15 Faceoffs Won 32 30 PP 0/1 0/2 Penalty Mins 6 4 Giveaways 11 (9 per NST) 8 (7 per NST) Takeaways 4 3 Blocked Shots 14 (13 per NST) 16 (13 per NST) 3 Stars: 3-McDavid (1G, GWG), 2-Kuemper (.967 Save %age), 1-Skinner (1.000 Save %age) Player TOI PP TOI PK TOI SOG +/- PIM Hits Blocks Giveaways Takeaways Nurse 22:41 1:12 0:55 3 1 0 0 2 0 0 Ekholm 22:38 0:55 1:03 3 0 0 1 0 0 1 Bouchard 22:24 3:04 0:00 0 1 0 0 1 1 0 Kulak 19:16 0:00 0:00 1 0 2 1 1 2 0 Emberson 17:06 0:00 1:04 1 0 0 3 3 0 0 Stecher 6:54 0:00 0:00 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 J Brown 6:23 0:00 0:57 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 Draisaitl 24:36 2:51 0:00 5 1 0 1 0 0 0 McDavid 24:18 2:49 0:00 5 1 0 2 1 1 0 Hyman 20:26 2:51 0:00 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 Nuge 19:55 2:49 0:36 2 0 0 0 2 0 1 Podkolzin 15:35 0:00 0:25 2 0 0 2 0 0 0 Henrique 13:55 1:10 0:36 2 0 0 1 2 0 0 Arvidsson 13:53 1:07 0:00 3 0 0 1 0 1 0 C Brown 13:20 0:00 0:58 1 0 0 2 2 0 0 Janmark 12:31 0:00 0:52 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 Perry 10:48 1:07 0:00 1 0 0 0 0 1 0 Kapanen 9:21 0:00 0:31 0 0 2 1 0 1 0 Oilers Faceoff Breakdown: Won Lost Percent Draisaitl 16 9 64.0 McDavid 5 6 45.5 Henrique 5 9 35.7 Nuge 3 4 42.9 Podkolzin 1 0 100.0 Janmark 0 1 0.00 C Brown 0 1 0.00 Arvidsson 0 2 0.00 Kings's Faceoff Breakdown: Won Lost Percent Danault 12 3 80.0 Kopitar 11 15 42.3 Byfield 6 12 33.3 Lewis 2 0 100.0 Kempe 1 0 100.0 "This is a story about Control. Our Control. Control of what we say, Control of What we Do and this time we're going to do it OUR Way." (paraphrased from the Janet Jackson song Control). The Oilers AND Kings BOTH had a LOT of Control. Oilers, ultimately, had more. This was a playoff style game. Coincidental minors late in the 2nd period (Laferriere and Kapanen) gave us a 4 on 4 where the Oilers scored. Leon was instrumental winning the race and battle to get the puck and driving to the net, getting it to Nurse who took a shot, rebound to the Birthday Boy Connor (Happy Belated Birthday Connor now 28 years young) for the only goal of the game. Defense was a massive star here and a key turning point was 5 minutes into the game when Skinner stopped a 2 on 1. Everyone locked things down and nothing got in on either side barring the one goal. Kuemper was great. Stuart Skinner was better. The only time Laferriere got after the penalties was the 2 seconds it took to skate to the bench. That's where he was the rest of the game. Nobody got a PP goal (Oilers had 2 shots at it, Kings had one) so PK's were 100% on both sides. From the stats: Both teams had 30 shots on goal. Oilers Outhit LA 15 to 8 (it's definitely he End Times). Kings won 2 more faceoffs (32 to 30), had more Giveaways (11 to 8), one more Takeaway (4 to 3) and blocked 2 less shots (14 to 16 for the Oilers). This game was TIGHT and CONTROLLED. With this critical win at this time in the season the Oilers are 4 points ahead of LA (though LA has 2 games in hand and more Regulation Wins). Vegas is 4 points ahead of the Oilers with the same # of games played. VGK has the easiest schedule for the remainder of the season. Oilers are 2nd on that list. LA, not so much and is back a bit. Next Game for Oilers, the Minnesota Wild. Next Game for LA the Vancouver Canucks. Next game for VGK, the Nashville Predators This is going to be a hard fought stretch for the Oilers before the quality of teams (using the standings ONLY) gets easier. Take care all

Good Stu game. Both Goalie were excellent but Stu 1 better. That Dria play for the assist was fantastic. Poise. And Godzilli Podgoalsagin had some really good moments, and a great one where he hacked his matchup twice with his stick at a faceoff, then mustled the guy right over and down with pure power, without taking a penalty. Not a common enough sight to see with this team imo. Great win, fun to watch.

Thanks for this podcast guys. If I ever see David Staples in real life I am going to repeatedly cough loudly in his ear. Use the GD mute button Staples. Talk about bush league podcasting. Also no mention of Oilers continued lack of urgency to close out the game with opposition net empty? Frustrating to see 3 or 4 missed attempts to score by top players. Its going to cost them if they don't bear down.

after losing 1st 3 games and 1st 5 of7, Team has really done well to win 22of next36 (+3T) & overcome the mgt changes (break-up of 1st penalty kill 'to last', ship Broberg-Holloway out, ship Foegele/McLeod/ Cici out... bring in Emberson-Stetcher & Skinner/Henrique/Arvidsson... -Team does not seem improved, but have really rallied to get in the PlayoffMix !

I have concerns about the way Stu handling the puck, and even think that Calvin is better than him in that category. However the way the Oilers play is so cool that it seems like nothing.

Philip roberg 14 points plus 10. Dylan Holloway 32 points plus 11. Jeff Skinner a few points minus a million. Question. Which oilers forwards are scoring at a higher pace than Dylan hallaway?
