This is good info because yeah, both my big toes suffered injury last summer and it's not April 2024 and it's JUST grown about half way. My toe nails turned black because of the blood due to me slipping inside the shoe because I was wearing runners. Sorry, that was TMI. But will check out this shoe

Perhaps it is not missteping. Rather, prevent slipping out of place. Crucial in those moments.

I wish you would have touched on how they fit and how the sizing goes. So many court shoes run very narrow. How do these run?
@MontisPickleball6 ай бұрын
Hi Jim! We find that our standard width shoes run true to size for most people, but for about 20% of people they run a bit narrow, so we have some wide sizes available as well! Our wide options have a few millimeters of extra space on both sides and the top of the toe box area. Our shoes are designed to fit comfortably snug on the sides in order to maximize the lateral movement response time when shuffling or sidestepping during play. We recommend to most people that if they sometimes go between sizes, they should take the bigger of the two in our shoes. Hope this helps!
@edjupickleball6 ай бұрын
I have slightly wide, boxy shaped feet, size 8.5. I got 8.5 for these and they feel SNUG, but not TIGHT. I did swap out the original laces for elastic laces which makes all my shoes feel like a snug fit, no matter the slight size differences. Edit: on their website, it does mention that it runs more on the narrow side, so if you have really wide feet, I would just for for the wide cut which is available for sizes 9+

Just found these shoes and they are top notch! My search has ended! I bought a second pair right away and they have attracted some attention as well for form and style though I focus on function. Good review Ed. I’ve been wearing the Babolat SFX3 Black/Orange and love it’s width for my flat wide feet (and it’s durability). How would you describe the footbed width on the Montis. I’m suspecting that you have a narrow foot. Thanks
@edjupickleball6 ай бұрын
I have boxy wide feet! I used to wear the sfx3 myself and I liked them! It kind of reminded me of the Wilson pro rush 3.0. I’m wearing the montis in 8.5 size so it didn’t have the option for wide cut, but surprisingly it fits perfectly on me. I used to always prefer wide cut shoes, Tbh, ever since I switched to elastic laces, the width of the footbed didn’t as matter as much anymore since the laces kept a comfortable tautness to my shoe as long as the shoe was “close enough”. But if your shoe size is 9+, they have a wide cut option so I’d just go with those.

Oh interesting- how heavy did yours come in? My size 8.5 weighed in at 12.5oz which is right between most shoes I’ve tried. Babolat jet Mach 3s are the lightest at 10.7oz. Head revolt pros 12oz Winners edge was 13.7 but that didn’t feel too heavy either. I believe my adidas barricades were close to 15oz which were the heaviest pair I’ve tried.

Is this good for plantar fasciitis? To me, that is the most concern for me and probably many others...
@MontisPickleball6 ай бұрын
Hi @MrSupasonics ! Thanks for your question. My personal experience (this is Tyler, one of the cofounders and designers of Montis, nice to e-meet you!) is that I got plantar fasciitis while wearing some other shoes and some not, and when we got the final designs of Montis in, I had no problems and any PF I was feeling before went away! That said, we didn't design the shoes for that specifically and we wouldn't advertise them to you as a cure for it. Our standard insoles are well-cushioned and comfortable, but not particularly heavy on the arch support. We have learned that nobody's feet are exactly the same. We think we have a great product that works really well for most people though!
@edjupickleball6 ай бұрын
I personally don't have plantar fasciitis, but my friend chris does and he really liked the Head Revolts for those. I also really liked those especially because of the INSOLES it has in them. The insoles on the montis are of similar thickness and feeling to those. Hope that helps!

I followed Ed's recommendation and bought Montis shoes. Usually I play in Nike Zoom Vapor pro and Adidas Barricade. I would say, Montis shoes look much better, and are a little lighter. On the other hand, Nike [last and this model year] and Adidas [last model year but not this model year] fit (me) a little better and feel somewhat more solid. Also, Montis shoes have a very strong glue smell out of the box, but it seems it wears out fairly quickly (I left my shoes in the garage for several days). The nice touch is two pairs of shoe laces, white and green (for my color selection), and a nice plastic bag to carry the shoes. These two little things spiced up the purchase and I kind of started liking them because of that. It seems that a round area under the first metatarsal with very little texture should make it easier to twist, but one has to adjust movement habits to use this functionality - I was not trying and did not feel any benefit from it. Overall, my test of Montis shoes confirmed for me that "pickleball shoes" is a marketing trick and nothing more. A court shoe is a court shoe, the rest is the matter of preferences, fit, color choices, etc. In any case, it is good to support a company which is starting in shoe business. The stronger is the competition, the better it is for consumers. Cannot speak about durability yet -which is, granted, a very important factor which usually determines how long the shoes last. No reason for hype, but nice shoes.

Head revolts are the goat! Great shoes. Those and the babolat jet Mach 3 have been my top choice for the past year. I like the montis more. @edjupickleball6 ай бұрын
I’ve only tried the Skechers viper arch fit (non-pro one. The one that’s navy and neon yellow color) I wasn’t a huge fan personally. The outside is cloth based so I ripped it in my first session while sliding :( the inside felt a little bit wiggly to me and not snug, so maybe I needed to go a size down. Don’t have many hours in those to be fair, but I know other people like em.

If you have a really high arch, I honestly don’t know any shoe that comes with high arch supporting insoles. You may need a custom insole if your arch is really high. If your arch is flat, these will feel great. My arch semi flat and the shoes I liked for that are montis and head revolt, which have nice insoles.

Probably not ideal for pickleball- you still want some sort of drop especially at the toe front of the shoe since forward movement is very common. Also I think the toe guard comes in very useful who slide on their toes. Zero drop shoes, I believe, don’t have toe guards.
