In Edmonton, the sidewalks bordering properties in the owners' responsibility to keep clear, and a person would sue property owner, not the city, if injured. That's why we picked house with no sidewalks bordering it. We don't have to clear it.

I might be mis-remembering, but I think the bylaw used to say you had to clear the walks within 24 hours of a snowfall, but now it's 48. I don't know when it changed (unless I have it wrong), but I think it should be 24. Of course cities everywhere that have such bylaws always say it doesn't apply to them.

I am in favour of money and effort put toward accessibility, and of course it's a benefit to everyone if we can improve the lives of handicapped individuals. There is the question of cost, though. How much more will this cost?
