Edmonton transit bus trashed, rider threatened with ice pick

A 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged after police say he caused more than $5,000 worth of damage to an Edmonton Transit Bus and threatened a female passenger, acts that drew condemnation from Alberta's premier.

As somebody who takes Edmonton public transit all the time this is just par for the course. I can't count the number of times I've seen someone walking around with an improvised weapon or shooting up or smoking any and every drug you can name in the middle of a crowded bus or train

Honestly, they need to hire a security company where they can physically take action where they have the powers of aresst as a security at the transit centres are a joke. They’re basically just sitting on their phones, looking at their phones and not doing their job.

Most are entry-level jobs with low pay that hire anyone with a heartbeat mainly for insurance purposes. Specialized transit security who are properly trained and vetted make a big difference.

I choose to take the bus over buying a vehicle. It's sad that I feel like this is becoming a ridiculously unsafe option. Do I continue to go Green or do I practice self care? And why are those two even competing with each other? I never had this problem in Calgary or Grande Priarie. Glad to be back on a bike this spring, next winter, I guess it's vehicle shopping for me.
