1. I agree with you. 2. It extends to friendships too. 3. In time, you realize their continued friendship is contingent on you relating to them on their terms. 4. Toxic Narcissism. 5. They don’t change. 6. YOU have to drop THEM.

I recently ended a nearly two-year relationship that had grown very toxic. I should have ended it months before I did. I watched this video nodding my head affirmatively through most of it - you were speaking my story and my truth, Ed. I did fall into those very patterns and I did stay when I knew I should walk - because of my own insecurity *and* because I didn't want to hurt him. That reasoning didn't work out very well - he ended up resenting me and I felt like the life was being drained out of me. Every word resonates. Painful lessons, but invaluable for growth. Thanks for another fantastic video.

Spot on Ed! Bye bye toxic. Once you can be alone it’s soooo awesome. That’s what people don’t understand, you can really grow and become an overall new person. And once you get out of all the drama life is peaceful and just awesome. Especially when you have the Lord 🤗

Everything you said is in such alignment with my own experience and what I know to be true. Even if I haven’t fully come to terms with some of the things it’s all so true. I left my ex of 4 years 2-3 years ago. I overstayed. It really tore me apart because there was no way I could convince them to see me when they couldn’t see beyond their own lens of trauma. They wouldn’t look within so all of the anger and resentment was taken out on me through abuse and eventually betrayal. Before her I built myself up. I was so focused on growing and improving. I had the blueprint for building and rebuilding through aloneness and solitude. I’ve spent a couple years on my own now. The entire time I’ve been focused on feeling joy and building myself up again. I feel great now and I no longer have waves of emotion. I can travel to foreign countries without any pause in my joy. I feel like a child again 95% of the time. I know most people don’t change but man I really believe I’m not one of those people. I want to be better, not just for another but for myself and I know I can do that now.

I've been sitting here feeling broken hearted and destroyed all week because of them. This video really enlighted me to what is going on with them. I can't believe the amount of energy I have put into this relationship in the last few months!! Once again Ed. A spot-on topic to educate us on.

The hardest part to all of this is being a parent and see your children going through something like this. Not an easy thing to do...yes I know we can tell them who they can and cannot be with (to a certain age), but when you start doing that they grow resentful towards you and it hurts the relationship you have with them. There is a balance you have to find, and be there for them and guide them along the way. Must share by all, great episode Ed.

Ed you're so awesome. One day im going to meet you, and im preparing now for that....On the subject of change, you cant change anyone......You change, you get therapy, you set boundaries, you leave them alone......sometimes things needs to splinter to be rebuilt......Its such a waste of time....Tony Robbins......" Raise your Standards" ......When you change you...and put in strong boundaries, watch things fall into place. I did that with my ex- husband. He is in a state of shock now trying to get back.....no contact. Its a wonderful feeling...im loving the results....

What a powerful message! Attempting to change someone is futile. It's wiser to accept them as they are or create distance for your own well-being. How have you personally navigated situations where you've wanted someone to change but realized it wasn't feasible?

Yeah you have to be careful between words and actions. I was being told how much the person wanted to change over and over. But yet kept getting the same behaviors. It has to come down to what they do. I stayed way too long past a healthy measure, because i wanted to believe the sweet sweet lies .... now ive moved on it is so obvious how tixic it really was.

I agree on everything you described! If anything I learned from toxic marriage is never to get into any relationship until I’m ready emotionally, mentally and physically while work so hard on myself and take care of my child I have a long way to go before I’ll let anyone in. Dr. Joe said on your interview. “If you live in survival why would you open your heart??” I have screen recorded that part and watch it since daily.

I can NOT believe the last 4 years of tge 32, more transpired without our daughter in the home YET her attitude toward me changed too because .... I was standing up for myself and "People eventually revealed to you who they really are" AND thrn the undermining of other relationships to punish yiu or get you to conform again. It hurts 💔😢 God has more instore. GET OUT SOONER is my advice. The last year of the four have been HORRIFIC and now in the throws of his drama to hurt me .... This talk…along with the “target” rings in the blue behind Ed reminded me of the book “Safe People” (which I highly recommend). The “target” reminded me of this…some people deserve to be in your “inner circle”…and as others prove themself to be unsafe or unhealthy for you…they need to be pushed out to the appropriate level away from you. We have to grow in skills to guard ourselves from allowing them closer than they deserve to better protect ourself. (Healthy boundaries) It requires us figuring out who we want/need to be within ourselves-and who prevents that or makes it too hard.

I created a lot of distance between people who treated me less than I think i should be treated like. It only gave me peace, raised my self worth and I am more confident and I am being me. 😊 Loved the episode. It was very connecting! 🩵

This video really was a reality hit for me! My husband is lazy or in other words he is happy to sit all weekend doing not much where I am the opposite ticking off my to do list in my head and running around all day after the kids and doing all the house chores inside and out. But the other side is like you said where I never try to change him or complain to him about his ways as it’s a waste of my energy and he has a short temper. So in conclusion my question is how do you deal with a partner who is lazy and this is okay?

In this world, relationship is false. Whether they are spouses or friends, all are concerned only with their own happiness. It never lasts; it definitely breaks. Hence one can never find true bliss. This type of friendship is related to material only. They never get a firm bond or deep intimacy. They stick around as long as they get food and clothing. The day their (food-clothing) come to an end, they start cursing. This love is based on the condition is being met. Unconditional love from human is rare to find. Avoid the company of these people they will damage you. My spouse old me you are here to provide money only. When I question her she get mad and angry.
