A true Renaissance. I think he owes a lot to his wife as well, I remember seeing him in gothika with Halle berry which was directed by his wife. And then suddenly he was in these hits. Prior to those movies he wasnt getting cast because he was uninsurable

Too many people don't realize the satire behind RDJ doing "blackface" and it being also satire about actors who take themselves way too seriously. This shit was sooo funny. It's like White Chicks but WAY more nuanced rather than just for the comedy and ridiculousnes.

@Moondragon1821 the fact that he was nominated for an Oscar irl for this role...basically proving the point of what they mocked in the movie. The press treated him just like the press in the film...jarring and hilarious. I'll never forget that era.

when this first played in theaters.... the real ads went straight into the fake ads with NO type of intro at all
@jansenart08 сағат бұрын
Nick Nolte is the voice at the start, he also played the author pretending he had no hands. He was in a really really good drama called Lorenzo's Oil about a father learning biochemistry to try to cure his son of a very rare disease. It really showed off his range. He did indeed also play The Father in Hulk (2003). If you consider the intro carefully, "South East Vietnam" is the FURTHEST area of Vietnam from the combat, so the clue that he was a fake was there from the start.

One of my favorite Tom Cruise roles. Cruise didn't like Harvy Weinstein before all the stuff with him came to light but was popular enough to avoid Weinstein's usual wrath. Les Grossman was more than likely a parody of Harvy Weinstein's bullying and disgusting behavior. Cruise must have had fun roasting that disgusting human.

What makes the blackface genius is that the whole point of the movie is making fun of Hollywood and all of the bs, INCLUDING the history(and present) of casting white actors to play POC characters which they're still kinda doing, obviously not as commonly done(it's more colorism based now, which is still whitewashing lol). But with RDJ's character, there's the double whammy because he's a method actor, and sometimes method actors tend to get a bad rep because, depending on the role, some of them have a tendency to take it too far or get in too deep, either affecting their psyche either, or crossing lines/boundaries and pissing off the people because they're beubg very annoying or being a horrible person (looking at you, Jared Leto). So, the mockery here isn't to mock black people like blackface was traditionally done as, but to mock the f*ckery of Hollywood casting, method actors that doo too much, and Oscar winning character actors that kinda ridiculous, but you accept the bullsh!t because of how talented they are lol. Basically Hollywood making a movie making fun of Hollywood lol. It's brilliant...

Rambo is the only Rambo. the sequels were all awful. The old M16's we used in Vietnam were very prone to misfire if they got dirty, so troops tried their best to keep their rifles clean an serviceable. The Vietnamese used AK-47's which were less susceptible to this, so they were considered more practical for the environment.
