@@kindofabigdeal7284I enjoy people reacting to this movie quite a bit and so far not one person (no matter what skin colour) was offended by that character - quite on the contrary, he's many people's favourite part of the movie. :) Well, SOME light skinned people have a second or two where you see them thinking "OMG, can I laugh about this?", while dark skinned reviewers go in laughing out loud from the beginning. And that is an observation I find a little funny in itself ^^. Everybody quickly gets that he's not making fun of dark skin (the way "classic" black face was used more often than not), but this is supposed to be an actor who takes his job WAY too far. I think they're called "method actors"? And sometimes you hear stories about some being WAY too much into their characters, like with the one who played the joker in the first Suicide Squad. The makeup itself is pretty damned impressive - hats off to the makeup people working on DowneyJr - and you really can forget you're watching a white guy in makeup, the acting completes the picture. :)

Rob McElhenny pulled it off in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Streaming services pulled the episode for racism, despite the joke being the same as it is in this movie - that the character is too ignorant and insensitive to realize how fucked up what he's doing actually is. There's also a few episodes where his wife, Kaitlin Olson, plays belligerent, racist charicaturrs, and is told how insensitive and wrong it is. Those are also pulled from streaming.

Without this Movie we don’t have the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Downey had been in jail previous to Tropic Thunder. Jon Favreau contacted Ben Stiller about RDJr’s work ethic on Tropic to help decide if Downey was stable enough for Ironman. Ben told Jon he is a pro on set and had no issues. Jon hired him, made Ironman and changed Hollywood with that first Marvel film. Thanks to Tropic Thunder and Ben Stiller.

Tropic Thunder was released 5 months after Iron Man-principle photography began for Tropic Thunder in July of 2007. RDJ was cast as Iron Man in September 2006. So, unless Favreau had a time machine and travelled 11 months into the future, Stiller wouldn’t have known anything about how RDJ was on set prior to him being cast as Iron Man. In fact, I found this article in Variety where RDJ explains how he came to be cast in Tropic Thunder: “I was in pre-production for 'Iron Man,' he recalls of the serendipitous casting, "and a friend of mine said, 'Hey, Stiller's in town; you might want to give him a call.'” So, he was definitely cast as Iron Man before he was cast in Tropic Thunder.

Kirk Lazarus was meant to be a parody of guys like Heath Ledger and other method actors who were infamous for getting *way* to into their character (the film came out before he died). And Stiller really is that ripped for the role, he's talked about how brutal the diet and exercise regime was.

I always loved that the “dude playin a dude disguised as another dude” line was the forth wall break too. It wasn’t just hilarious it was a nod to the audience. And yes RDJ definitely stayed in character for the DVD commentary AND Tom Cruise’s only demand for his part was he wanted to have fat hands and to dance. ALSO Lance is played by Lance Bass from NSYNC. This move is only my second favorite comedy film next to Planes Trains and Automobiles. That’s another great one to react to. Enjoy.

Why the helicopter do that 😂 that’s literally why they have a tail rotor, to counteract the main rotors torque and keep from spinning like that! It’s the Achilles heel of helicopters

Yeah, that might be the most realistic thing about this movie. Not all helicopter crashes will look like this, but tail rotor hit - which is a very fragile part vulnerable to enemy fire to the point you could actually ask why they designed it like this and there are indeed some concepts how to avoid needing one - will cause a crash exactly like this.

Stiller's character genuinely tries the hardest, and is only as crazy as everyone else because his career is on fire at the moment. His muscles are real, his stunts are real, and his inability to cry on command is supposed to be like seeing a baseball player with the yips.

I love what they did with RDJ's character because a studio would 100% rather do a "blackface loophole" with an academy award winner rather than a POC. Hence Alpa Chino's "they had one good role in here for a black man and they gave it to crocodile Dundee."
