Thing with Nynaeve (in the show) is that she's become convinced that she can't depend on other people or let them come close (and see her as she really is) because they'll realize she isn't good enough (at anything beyond medicine). She's constantly fighting with herself over her imagined weakness and unworthiness. Zoë's portraying that inner conflict in every exchange - you can see her showing surges of anxiety and shame in fleeting expressions before she tries to push it back down in order to protect herself from hurt. Only some very powerful emotions (centered on people she loves, it would seem - Lan in the cave and the kitchen, Egwene in her story about healing Breakbone fever) can cut through all that. Think most of us have a friend or two struggling with similar issues so I really like this portrayal, it makes her feel like a complete person. peace

They mentioned that not being able to touch the One Power was equivalent to being violated, so I wasn't mad that by the way Moraine was acting. She has always had to be one step ahead, and put the mission of finding and keeping Rand safe above all else, including herself (because let''s be real she probably would much rather be with Siuan 24/7 than researching or fighting) so I saw this grieving process as her finally putting her own feelings first. I do think Lan is valid in his frustrations but lashing out at her was not the move to get her to open up. If a friend lost a loved one , a job, or a home, yes I would be a little annoyed if they snapped at me when I try to help but ultimately I wouldn't want to center my feelings above someone who is actively going through a very hard time. That's just my takeaway though lol

Oh, I am SO glad we have you back for S2. Long time reader and lover of S1 (though it had its fair share of issue bc of the pandemic during the production). This season DOES look like it's got an upgrade. Different from the books, but still working it on the overall story. Like Lezby Nerdy says, the changes are not load bearing. Love your reactions. Nice to meat Ciarianna. Love the back and forth. Thanks for being SO entertaining. Talk to you again, after the next episode. We didn't like the pacing on this episode, but VERY interesting in how they are conveying the plot details of the book in different order, but getting to the same place. Next time...

One thing that must be understood is that Warders are actually Aes Sedais' bodyguards. Some develop a deep bond like Lan & Moiraine and some a physical bond like Alanna & her warders but for most Aes Sedai, warders are just their protectors. And warders are even taught to obey their Aes Sedai completely without questioning them. So Moraine not telling stuff, doing whatever she wants & expecting Lan to follow her is all quite normal behaviour for a regular Aes Sedai & Warder.

I was pleasantly surprised by this episode. I loved 1-4 in S1, but was disappointed in what came after. My hype for this season wasn't high, but... it is returning due to this one! Not 100% on board with Perrin going after the horn, and no explanation given about Loial's wounds etc, but looking forward to episode 2 (tonight!;-).

I think Verin was not offering excuses, she was offering understanding. She was trying to get Lan to understand she is in grief . Yes, Lan lost who was Moiraine but Moiraine lost her whole being. No one has said that how Moiraine is treating Lan (shutting him out and being short with him) is right, but you also can't try to force someone talk when they haven't processed what happen to them for themselves. You will ended up just get the response that Lan is getting. He should have backed off and let her come to him.

Another thing is, Moiraine doesn't seem to think she's good enough for Lan. I get the sense that she doesn't believe she deserves his loyalty etc. When she said they weren't equal, I think she means he's better than that. She made that point in season one when she was talking to him about it.

I’m not going to spoil anything, but I will give you some clues about Moirain’s actions think back to what happened in season one episode five, then, remember that now she doesn’t have the power to protect or heal Lan if something happens to him. It’s classic behavior. It’s classic behavior your period push someone away so they don’t get hurt, intern, hurting yourself and them.

Her actions really don’t make any sense. I don’t have to give book spoilers. We saw in episode 5 that if anything happens to Moraine then Lan is dead soon afterwards. They talked about passing the bond but Moraine can’t do that while she is shielded. Lan is better off protecting Moraine as long as she is powerless.

However, anything not written by the original author is fan fiction. They put a lot of elements from the books in the show. Remember it would be pretty expensive to do everything exactly like the books. For example Selene whose book intro I won’t spoil would be pretty expensive and confusing to do onscreen for reasons.

Hmm, I don't think Moraine has the right to be cruel but she's really going through it and it isn't her responsibility to make Lan feel better. He's a grown man, he knows the score and he still expects her to be the old Moraine. She is being extra but she is matching his loyalty with cruelty because she knows how far he will go for her and she really needs him to just leave for his own good. She probably feels she has absolutely nothing to offer him.

Lan has been bonded to her for 20 years and feels everything she does, he is still bonded, the first scene shows that when he is practicing his fighting and losing concentration while she is bathing and she is emotional. So she still can feel the source but not use it, she has not been stilled like Logain was in S1, but she cannot access it

Why did he ask her to lift the bond when he found her at the eye? Genuine question I've only read the first book so maybe I have got the mechanics wrong. Lan has mentioned more than once that he had no purpose and was empty before Moraine and the cause, I love Lan as a person but under the circumstances he probably isn't actually the best person to be around Moraine right now. We can see that she is teetering on the edge of despair and being bonded to someone who has succumbed to it in the past might tip her over into despair, if that happens she is as good as dead. I don't say this reaching but I have been through something that shook me to my soul and I did the same. In order to keep going I had to push people away because I only had enough in me to keep going and I had nothing surplus to offer anyone else. Other people feeling the need to comfort me might of just made me spiral into self pity. I only know book one version of Moraine but Rosamund Pikes version seems even more distant.

Saidin the male source of the power is more like you are disgusted to hold it and have to fight to grab more this is because the male part is tainted I hope they will explain this further in the show. Saidar is more like a drug experience many women take in to much to fast, and burn themselves out. So that is the distinction between those two. But I see what you two are saying.

When Wheel of Time first came out in the early 90's it was revolutionary because the role women play in this world is super contrary to the status quo. Even today, men have a hard time grappling with female dominance, and thats why they be trippn in the comments, even after they have read the books. The Dune series never went as far as Wheel of Time when it comes to women in power, even though the Bene Gesserit are annoying af.
