I just want to say I LOVE when you guys talk about topics like this one. Personally I find it fascinating how things in our childhoods help shape who we are as we grow up. Please keep material like this coming, plus the chemistry between you two is amazing. PS. Edric you’re my favorite lol

I see so much of myself in Edric. I was one of the most hated students from elementary school until 10th grade. Then I changed and people started liking me. Then college came around and I got popular, but fucked up in studies and fell into 3 years of drunken stupors, mistakes, being lost in life and feeling like a total fuck up. Ended up taking 7 years to finish undergrad. I’m glad he made it, gives me hope at 27

It's so wild to hear these sorts of stories. I had my formative growing up years in the late '90s/early 2000s, and I grew up in a large city where we'd always hear about these sorts of things (and I'm also Asian), but was never directly affected by my surroundings like that. I don't think any of my other Asian friends did either, because we were such nerdy kids. I probably would've shit myself, no lie.
@ashina59244 жыл бұрын
This was rampant in the early 2000's for me. Everyone fought or was gang affiliated. EVERYONE lol
@Blephernan5454 жыл бұрын
I did not grow up with this kinda stuff because I was born in 2000 and I went to schools that had pretty strict no violence and no bullying policies. Something about hearing these stories brings back memories of me and my cousins, me at 5 years old, with our uncles and ninos who are drunk telling us stories that were just like theirs. As a kid I thought woah they are so badass. But I was well aware of this stuff going on at a very young age because at least for me it was normalize. So when ever David brings up these stories it really feels like I'm going back in time and listening to our ninos and uncles stories.

Very VERY curious about this rapper now. Also, love hearing about Ed's interesting life. Any update on his love life? LOL man my favorite ep is that one about the girl he used to talk to.

Great podcast. I grew up in LA (mind you I'm in college now, so like highschool days were not long ago at all), and this shit still goes on. Sure it might not be glamorized like it was in the 90's and early 00's, but this shit still happens so much. Not just in hoods, but even in like regular neighborhoods.

27 year old from the Netherlands (Amsterdam) here. I've never really experienced racial gangs in my neighbourhood (or was blind to it). it was a pretty multicultural area. People in highschool hung out with whoever they wanted. The asian people tended to mostly hang out with other asians though. But there wasn't really any animosity against other races. When anime become more polular (the start of naruto ish) it wasn't looked down upon on. More getting people on your side to also watch it.

We never tried to cause any problems but people know that if thy try to press us then thy were in deep trouble. Definitely feel what ed was saying about the new gen being soft. Always will roll deep though, never riding solo. #HmgPride

Lots of schools that once had huge gang problems do not have it now. Just off the top of my head...Mark Keppel high in Monterey Park, once had tons of active asian gangs in the 90's..now its all regular asian teens. Woodrow Wilson high in Long Beach where they based the movie Freedom Writers on..now is just mostly white kids. Even Compton HS once filled with bloods & crips in the 80's 90's is mostly Mexican teens now
