EDSA bike lane enforcement operation

Many riders left the EDSA bicycle lane after seeing SAICT enforcers.
Although many riders went straight back into the bicycle lane, after getting past enforcers - proving that without a ticket being issued, it's difficult to deter people from misusing the exclusive bicycle lane.
Strangely, even when the regular lanes were flowing quickly, some motorcycle riders were still caught inside the bicycle lane.
As you'll see in the video, motorcycles are permitted to use all 4 regular lanes of the highway. They are not forced to stay inside a single lane.

"No more enforcers, no more law", that's the best way to describe them. It's just astounding how most of them don't care about traffic rules. I, for one, have become a different person since i started driving. My patience has worn thin in the last 5 years because of them. Cutting really close on your sides. Blocking the road when it was meant for motorists to take a right turn. Don't get me started with their noisy mufflers it's as if it has any purpose or benefit at all when driving. Can we get a people's initiative to ban all "small bikes"? With that in place, i'm sure the roads will be a better place to drive.

you can't put the majority of people to ban small bikes, they're the last resort option if you need a quick or same day delivery of important documents/food/packages/parcel esp. if you're stuck in a meeting or can't get your goofy ahh back off the bed. Also the last resort of people who need a quick trip from point A to B, cruising through the traffic. Remember, these "small bikes" are the ones who made sacrifices during the lockdown.

These are hopeless people, to them, they will take the chance to violate every law in the land because there is not enough penalty or punishment to stop them from violating the law, especially traffic law. You can increase the fine to a thousand, five thousand, and even 50 thousand, violators will still violate. You can confiscate their license, and they will still drive, and they won't care. As long as they are not required to pay on the spot, you can raise the fine as long as you want, violators will still violate. The only solution to this problem is to come up with a law that would give the mmda the power to confiscate the vehicle for impound immediately after the violation and require the offenders to pay a stiff fine before they can get their vehicles back. Put a signage on the bus lanes and bicycle lanes announcing this law and implement the law in the strictest sense of the word, and I think this will give these people something to think about before they cross the lines again. Fines only don't work since they don't pay on the spot. Confiscate the license don't work since they will still drive even without the license. Confiscate the vehicles, now you're talking. Even if you have money in your pocket and you have a drivers license in your wallet, but you don't have your motorcycle or your car with you, how can you drive?😅😅😅😅

I regularly cycle to work in Pasig from Ermita. I have rarely seen the bike lane enforced. The bike lanes are full of scooters everyday. I also find that when jeepney's stop to pick up or drop off, the jeepney may stop outside the bike lane but the passengers blindly step into the bike lane ignoring any passing cyclists.

Raise the penalties and there will be less rule breakers. Also realistic they could hire more enforcers with the raised fees. Here where I live they have had pnp checkpoints everyday since the first of the month but people just wait with all the other riders way before the checkpoint until they finish. I've seen atleast 100 motorcycles on both side that don't want to go through the checkpoints.

It's not the problem of not knowing the traffic rules, it's just these riders/drivers have in their nature to just don't care about them. The bus lane traffic rule had been implemented, broadcasted, posted in social media and everything that the government would use to inform everyone and it even took more than a year but still even now there are violators and many of them even said they knew they were violating but they just want to escape traffic. I believe the only way to fix this is to keep on increasing the harsher punishment until the violators actually feel the fear of violating.

I think for the Bike Lane barrier they should install Metal Bollards on the entry point with small gaps that bicycle can only enter. it can be effective without enforcement..

Use technology like license plate scanner cameras setup all along the bus and bike lanes. Send ticket by mail. If they don't pay by the time their licence or registration needs renewal, LTO can refuse renewal until they pay. That's in addition to physical enforcement. Make the fine 10k peso.

That's essentially what the MMDA had been doing for several years with their CCTV - albeit a manual process of monitoring the cameras. Unfortunately when the LGUs launched their NCAP, it was challenged in the Supreme Court, and somehow the MMDA got included in the temporary restraining order. The case was actually filed against the 5 LGUs. As far as I know, the MMDA were not a respondent in that case. Hopefully the MMDA can be excluded one day.

Basically, automobiles and motorcycles are not allowed to occupy the bicycle lane while driving because it counts as blocking the way of the bicycle lane and it's a violation. Even if you pull over to the right on EDSA, don't block the bicycle lane.

It ranges but from what I can tell being apprehended after a long chase is a ₱500 penalty and if you did so in a reckless manner it can lead to suspension of license

You can report it to whoever their agency is. For example, if they're an MMDA enforcer, you could report it to the MMDA - through their Facebook page or 136 hotline. Billions of pesos are being spent on bicycle lanes, but sometimes you would wonder whether the desire to enforce them is really there.

Tell them to not block the bike lane as makes it unsafe for bikers (the least protected road users) or please use the buffer lane for parking or stand by, they are the ones shouting or honking...
