My first exposure to the TMNT was actually the Dark Horse lead figures. Back in 1986 my family moved near the downtown area of our city, and it had a gaming store. Walls of metal miniatures, role playing games, and comic books. I recall the TMNT being there are looking both cool and weird, but wouldn't get into the franchise until that first wave of Playmates figures appeared at the local comic shop and I bought the original Leonardo figure.

About a decade ago a girl I went on a date with stayed the night at my house, we were laying in my bed talking. At the time my entire bedroom was adorned with nothing but TMNT stuff, including my entire figure collection. After an awkward silence in the conversation she turned to me and said, "Ya know, if we're going to be dating you're going to have to do something about all these Turtle toys." So I looked at her and replied/asked, "Who said we were gonna be dating?"

What was amazing with TMNT is that there were material for almost every ages. I got my first TMNT figure at 7 and started watching the cartoon. At 10, I was reading the Archies comics series. My Turtles journey started in 1989 on a family holiday to the USA (I'm from the UK) visiting relatives. I loved Action Force (or GI Joe as I discovered it was called in the US!) and wanted to go buy loads from a huge Toys R Us in Chicago on my 10th birthday. My older cousin asked me if I liked TMNT, but I'd never heard of it, so she got me to watch the cartoon and I was hooked! We went out and I bought Leonardo (cos he had swords!) and Michelangelo (cos that was my cousins favourite), and a few issues of the Archie comic. I think the cartoon started in the UK in early 1990, and that same year I discovered my local comic shop and also discovered the Mirage series which was being reprinted in collections by Penguin Books in the UK to cash in on the live action movie. Still love the TMNT just as much today :-D

In Italy the comics remained unpublished for years, the toys and the cartoon (in that order) came first. I remember the first commercials showcasing the figures and giving you bits of exposition to get you into the story. It was love at first sight, my first figures were Leonardo and a Foot Soldier. The Italian edition of the original Mirage book was released a few years later by a small time indie publisher, as bigger names didn't pick it up because of the drastic tone change compared to the cartoon and published the Archie Comics TMNT Adventures instead.

Sup,Ed. Me again.. i was one of those teenagers that got caught playing with those little kid's toys. Long-short.. Palladium's actual deal with Mirage was dropped roughly around 97 to 98. The books numbers were low but they kept reprinting them into the late 90s. The Terror Bears in specifically I'm particularly fond of , i reintroduced the characters to NICK around what '13 or '14. They would be developed a few years later as the "Dream Beavers". Further PALLADIUM concepts were / are introduced into the 2012 show and the current IDW comic books.. i.e. "After the Bomb", Dr.Feral, and yeah the Terror Bears among others. So if the 2 Dream Beavers released in '14 are in your collection.. you essentially have a version of the Bears . Closest Palladium has ever had to toys by Playmates.

At a vintage toy sale I saw an arosol can of Ninja Turtles Shaving Cream.... I had to wonder just how successful that product was, simply because the age demographic seemed to me to be completely wrong.

@@EdsRetroGeekOut IMO, it just defied all marketing logic. Bed sheets, okay, toothpaste, sure, even vitamins or breakfast cereal, but when you start in on hygine products specifically for post pubecents, it's not going to work. "My little pony home hregnancy test anyone?"
