B'omarr Monk from Star Wars Power of The Force was my favorite one of these!
@EdsRetroGeekOut3 жыл бұрын
Awesome I'll have to look into that one :-D
@josephjones78283 жыл бұрын
@@EdsRetroGeekOut That B' Omarr Monk one is an interesting one. It was initially offered as a mail-in offer that came with another mail-in offer. In 1997 Lay's potato chips had a mail-in offer for a Spirit of Obi-Wan Kenobi figure. You had to send in proofs of purchase off of original and/or pizza flavored chips along with a money order. In Canada I believe other flavors of chips were allowed. There were six possible variants of the Spirit figure could receive in the mail. Five of the variants pertained to coming with one of five possible purple coupons (the final variant was getting the Spirit Kenobi figure with no coupon). Of those five coupons only two of them are noteworthy for mail-in purposes. One was for a free mail-in cardboard diorama playset of Mos Eisley Cantina for so many Power of the Force proofs. This diorama would also later be offered as a mail-in with a money order and Power of the Force proofs through the official Star Wars magazine. In Japan you could get the diorama in a seven pack of figures that was exclusive to Toys R Us. The diorama would eventually get a wide retail release packed with white pauldron Sandtrooper and small flying patrol droid. The other notable coupon was a mail-in offer for a free B'Omarr Monk with Power of the Force proofs. Later that year Kenner/Hasbro held a contest on their official Star Wars website where you could win the B'Omarr Monk for free. After the contest was over they put up on their website a printable mail-in order form where you could just buy an unlimited number of B'Omarr Monk figures for about $8 per figure. There were two variants to the B'Omarr Monk figure pertaining to the instruction sheet that came with the figure. The .00 instruction sheet had no choking hazard warning while the .01 sheet did. A slightly more screen accurate repaint of the Monk figure would get a retail release during the 2002 Saga Star Wars line in multi-pack known as the Jabba's Denizens. As for the Spirit of Obi-Wan figure, there is more to say there. In the United Kingdom you could get the Spirit figure in special packaging with a mail-in offer that came with the Special Edition Trilogy VHS tapes. Here in the US the Spirit figure was so overproduced that the leftover stock was purchased by Meijer stores and sold on their store shelves in unofficial exclusive third party packaging they made themselves. If bought from Meijer the Spirit figure could be packed two ways. First was just the Spirit figure by itself, second was the Spirit figure bundled with the golden mail-in Action Masters C-3PO (which Meijer also bought the excess of after that mail-in offer was over). Incidentally in case you are wondering, Meijer also sold the golden mail-in Action Master C-3PO just by itself in their unofficial third party packaging.

Pretty sure I had the Savage He-Man figure. The buy 3 get 1 free promo was buy 3 bags of bread and get a free toy? Something like that. Same as Ghost of Obi-Wan in the 90's you had to buy two bags of Lay's Potato Chips and send in proofs of purchase.

I mailed away for a Storm Trooper Han Solo from boxes of Fruit Loops. It took so long I forgot all about it. They sold just Luke and then they made a 3 pack with Chewbacca

Still have my mail away mumm ra. Now the staff would take some doing to find. Typical lol. Also there was at least another transformer mail away I remember getting I think it was cam shaft. Lost in the ether. They took so long you would forget about them. Then one day a plain box comes in the mail and it’s like Christmas. Good times.

I got two Star Wars figures via proof-of-purchase. Nein Nunb, who was Lando Carlissian's co-pilot in ROTJ, and helped blow up the final Death Star. You needed 4 Proof-Of-Purchase seals for him. Another was 4-LOM, or was it Zuckuss? You see, there was a mail-away for a figure called 4-LOM, who was a bug-looking bounty hunter in ESB. I was the envy of my friends at school when I got him, and they didn't have him yet. However, years later, George Lucas revealed that the character thought to be 4-LOM was Zuckuss, and Zuckuss was 4-LOM. Through some misunderstanding, the two bounty hunter figures were mixed up, and for years, one had the name of the other, until Lucas noticed and pointed out which was actually which. So I sent away for 4-LOM, and actually got the figure who is in fact Zuckuss. I also bought the other one from the store, and it said Zuckuss on the card, when it was in fact a 4-LOM figure.

I got that custom GI JOE. His name was Sgt. Supertough. I was into Sgt. Slaughter at that time, and if I'M a GI Joe, I guess I'm going to be super tough? I don't think I have my GI Joes anymore, so that card must be gone.. I wonder what else I put on it.

In the 80's, I used to send 1 flag point and $1.50 (Canadian, I think; maybe just $1) and I would name the Joe I wanted. They would send me that Joe. I got lots that way.
