For many unreleased toys, they must have already invested so much in producing the mold, since they had the prototypes presented in the promotional advertisements. I wonder if any of those prototypes still exist out there? Nowadays, companies can just print them with 3D printers before commiting to a big investment, like they did with the MOTU Snake Lair they tried to get crowd-funded, but didn't find much support for with the fans.
