I know, as a professional audio engineer this layout freaks me out. And it's still way to live to mix properly in. But as a music creative space it's great and if Ed loves it then that's the main thing.
@1andonlyson3 жыл бұрын
@Traktor @NoQualmsTheArtist Oh wow, I thought this was standard😂... I'm still kind of new to aud production/engineering and stuff... if yall don't mind answering, what would be the better/best way to do setup? Is there an industry standard setup? & I agree, if Ed likes it, then it's perfect👌🏾💪🏾
@NoQualmsTheArtist3 жыл бұрын
@@1andonlyson the main problem acoustically is that it is impossible to truely hear the music the way the room is set up. There are 3 main problems with the design. Symmetry, standing waves, bass build up. The listening position should be in the centre of the room (but not the middle) and the speakers equal distance from each wall, so the room reflections arrive at both your ears at the same time. The speakers should not be close to the walls because it colours the sound. The sound treatment does nothing to stop the primary reflections, actually they make no sense at all, they may help slightly with the reverb in the room, it actually looks like Ed is trying to reduce the outside noise with placing them on the doors, but they do nothing to help with hearing in the mixing position. And lastly there has been no treatment to stop bass build up in the corners of the room. So basically it is great for creating music, but you definitely can't trust your mixing decisions and will have to constantly check your mix on different reference sources like in you car in order to know your mix sounds good. It really depends on your priorities, personally I would set the room up to be both acoustically tuned and a creative space, but I am a trained audio engineer traditionally taught on large format consoles. I have been taught about these things, if you don't know you can't make the right decisions.

Could you make a video about acoustic treatment? I see you have some diffusers on the doors and walls. Is the sound good in your room now? I'm currently working on my room for making music and with Room EQ Wizard I've found that I have to cover a lot with panels. Does that even make sense for a home studio? Bring such diffusers that you have but what? :D I look forward to an answer from you and please keep making such entertaining videos! :D
@KL-tn1xc3 жыл бұрын
not trying to hate here, just wanting to make a reccomendation, because the room doesn't sound good at all IMO, the decay / reverb is still very long. you can make a pack of rock wool acoustic panels, really easily, which performs miles better, look better then the foam you put up and for cheaper. you can make 24 huge ass, amazingly acoustically performing panels for about 200 dollars or even less.

I know this is a really delayed message but maybe oneday to upgrade you could replace the flooring instead of using vinyl ontop of tiles you should remove the tiles and vinyl with carpet though this doesnt look as good (Depending on your preferences) but itll help with echoing on the inside this will improve sound quality in the room
