Love this video! I do have to say, if you are worried about a captive raised adult turtle not making it in the wild, in its native habitat, all I can say is look at all the "invasive" reptiles which have been released into the US because "they got too big!" They have millions of years of instincts hardwired into their brains. They know what to do, not to say that all of them will make it, but the wild ones don't either.

How can taking wildlife out of the wild only to be released again possibly be considered "saving" them? If anything the babies should have been left alone. This video is teaching the wrong lesson to viewers who are now inspired to start digging up turtle nests.

Great vid. Nice walkthrough and great setup. Lucky little turtles! Those bioballs are total junk though. Even a small pebble likely has higher surface area- you'd be much better off with a large sack of lava rock or something else cheap with really high surface area. Luckily the filters so big it probably doesnt matter too much..

Hi. Amazing video. I loved the little habitat you built. One thing I thought of was when I used to keep baby painted turtles is I would raise Endler's live bearers in a 10 gallon tank half planted with Anacharis. I would feed the baby feeder guppies to the turtle hatchlings which would also get them started eating on their own so that I could also train them to eat turtle sticks. Some water turtles will eat Anacharis as well. A suggestion is you could plant or float some Anacharis in the water and release some Endler's Live Bearer guppies to help the turtle hatchling with the natural predator behavior.

Adams lake state park in ohio is filled with midland painted turtles and i caught a single smallmouth bass. i caught 3 baby turtles and saw 31 total. they are everywhere!

Check farm supply stores, they normally have them or can get them in. I am a albino turtle breeder over in the tampa Bay area. With clutches of eggs, I was thinking the same thing on the tubs. Periodically you will find used waterland tubs at great prices but they are hard to come by. But when you do, I encourage you to buy those instead so you can have a all in one system.

If you are seeking a water land turtle tub, there is a very well known sulcata tortoise rescue online that also takes in aquatic turtles however they never advertise that, it is something you must call about. In doing so, once or twice a year, they will advertise used waterland turtle tubs on Craigslist and such for $90 to $150 dollars. They are out by the wimama area .Now my waterland turtle tub is a older model that I picked up for $100 dollars that you can see on my KZbin channel that has a trio of my adult breeders swimming in it. But for the few years the sulcata rescue had the newer gray ones you see everywhere else. It is the only sulcata rescue you can find in Hillsboro county and will pop up in a basic google search. If you can't locate it, let me know and I will find it for you pretty quick. I to will be buying them when available again as I have many albinos being raised and my albino pink belly sidenecks and a few sliders are getting up to size to safety put outside now.

I love the setup but I was wondering how often you need to clean the whole thing? I can imagine the filterpats will fill up with dirth and all so the water can't get through anymore. It is a bit of a job to empty it every time and build it up again.

You should clean the filter cartridges once a week or once every two weeks. There is a good chance a lot of beneficial bacteria will be living in the cartridges so you should take a bucket and fill it up with water from the pond itself and clean the cartridges in bucket so the beneficial bacteria isnt bothered.

You can create a all in one pond set up with drain plugs and filtration that make cleaning very simple actually. I breed and raise several albino species currently. The task is simple.
