Tubin's two-movement ninth symphony, subtitled "Sinfonia semplice" ("simple symphony"), was written in 1969. While perhaps "simple" in its clarity compared to the symphonies of Tubin's middle period, it is quite a substantial work - coherent and motivically driven, as is typical of the composer, and splendidly orchestrated throughout.

Fascinating music, as always Pranav. I like the harmonic language and the clear, but not thin, textures. I like the way he "weights" his melodic lines by scoring unison pairs, as with the clarinets and trumpets and with the strings by having the violas and 2nds or the 1sts and 2nds always in unison with those moving 8th note lines in Movement 1. They're techniques that I enjoy hearing and that I use a lot myself these days. Thanks!
