Sooo I like the idea with the steel snap clip with the sling for the but tie. Another piece of kit I use is a mini porta wrap on self made ultra sling made out of 1/2" so its super light weight. It enables the climber to take wraps so it doesn't rip the groundies arms out and you are still able pull it off to use as a tag. Give it a shot. Thanks for all your content. I know its a lot of work between videoing and editing. Keep up the excellent work.

Hey Patrick - long time listener first time caller... :) Great videos. What's your favorite friction hitch positioning lanyard setup to use? I'm getting ready to replace my old Hawkeye lanyard and prusik and am looking at the Tritech with Bail-out prusik. What's your favorite combo and why? Also - daisy chain hitch is a complete game changer!!!!

Nice work. Interesting use of the daisy chain knot for easy untying on the ground I guess. But why not use a double wrap with karabiner and fisherman’s? Is it not easier to ascend the trunk with a neck tether or chest harness. I’d say god bless but I’m not American 😂

surprisngly cathartic watching someone climb. What's the hitch you're doing to tie off the bits being rigged down? I usually just have a karabiner on a loose bowline and choke it off. Maybe your way is better

Patrick question for you buddy that's a hard maple it seems like when you're gaffing up it you just step really lightly do you have your spikes super super Sharp I always like have to pound mine in maybe I'm more comfortable hitting them in hard but your way looks so much easier any tips on that thank you
@TreeMuggs_PatrickM
@TreeMuggs_PatrickM Жыл бұрын
I rarely sharpen my spurs, once every few years, most trees I just try to step normally and trust that they will sink in. Every once in a while I get into a really hard tree where I will have to pound each step in, very hard on the body... - Patrick

@@TreeMuggs_PatrickM yeah you are exactly right. have you ever gaffed out I'm sure you have I just worry if I don't step hard I'm going to gaff out I've never gaffed out to be honest. can you tell me a little bit about gaffing out like what would happen I'd be caught immediately right if I had my lanyard on
@ericharris893
@ericharris893 Жыл бұрын
@@br-dj2ti I’ll chime in my friend, gaff out situations vary. Smooth bark or no bark on the tree can let the lanyard slip and roll and could be dangerous. Use a Prussik on the lanyard so it can’t slip down if you gaff out. If I foresee a situation like that while I’m working, I’ll just go around the tree twice with my long lanyard. If I know it’s a sketch climb on beech, striped maple or dead ash I’ll use a prussik from the git-go. If there’s bark on the tree and you gaff out, it’s just going to jerk you into the tree. If there’s a nub or stick left, it will magnetically aim towards your rib cage or scrotem. Your Inner forearms knuckles and face take most of the shock tho. You get used to it. I gaff out on big bark trees. The smoother or shallower bark holds the gaffs better. The mature bark on locust, sugar maple, or white pine can be a bitch.

that device on your personal rope looks a pain to have to keep pulling slack through. why not use an ascender so it slides freely up the rope as you climb and decend with a decender like a rope access technician?
@snowyseb
@snowyseb Жыл бұрын
Tree work is a tad more dynamic with movement, not just up and down compared to rope access.
@TreeMuggs_PatrickM
@TreeMuggs_PatrickM Жыл бұрын
This type of climbing device is known as a multicender, allows easy up and down in a single device. We go up and down, up and down way more than a lot of other rope access trades, wouldn't make sense to keep switching devices between ascent and descent...
